Can't leave the Launcher running between game sessions

That EVE Launcher thing is a problem, in that:

1) It shows that you can just log right into the game, so you click the PLAY button, and then it looks very sad and says, "oh, sorry, I can't actually let you do that, you last logged into the system too long ago and you have to type in your name and password again." The launcher can't figure that out before you press PLAY and change back to the login configuration?

2) If I leave the Launcher running after quitting the game, and an update shows up, the Launcher can't handle it at all. It doesn't process the update, doesn't show one is available, and lets you attempt to enter the game without loading and processing the update. The game goes, "Whoa! That copy of EVE client is SO ANCIENT I'M NOT LETTING YOU ANYWHERE NEAR NEW EDEN! NO WAY!" (Psst! Your game client is incompatible.) What? Who? Why?

The workaround is to: Quit the Launcher. Start the Launcher. Now it has a clue, and starts updating.

(If you need a Mac guy, lemme know.)
