Boosters are ok, because with the proliferation of bad players with blobs the only way to compete solo is to have something up your sleeve.

Ships should be incredibly expensive and have way more upkeep costs. They should have crew and be capturable. Stations should charge to store items and have finite space available for rent. It should take time to move cargo on/off ships and ships should have way bigger cargo holds than they currently do. Ships should also accumulate damage over time that is not repairable to as new condition.
