Autopilot ETA

Hi, I was just thinking that it should be quite simple using a ship's maximum velocity, warp speed, and distances between stargates, to calculate and display an estimated time of arrival when using autopilot. This feature, while minor, could be a big help for lots of players.

That way you know how many episodes of Family Guy you can watch on Netflix before you have to tab back into the game.

This idea was brought up before. There are holes in it, such as the game having to recalculate your ETA whenever something happens, like your freighter being bumped while you're alt-tabbed watching Family Guy instead of paying any attention to EVE at all like you should be.

I cannot, do not and will not support anything that encourages, entices, enables or enhances AFK "play" of EVE.

Hi CCP, please spend time developing more things that allow us to play the game without actually having to be at our computers playing the game.

Thanks, bye!

Im sure CCP have some average distanse they can use for warp lenght in such a calculation, should be a simple calculation to get how long your current ship takes between gates. Multiply that value with how many systems you want to jump and you have an ETA, wint be correct on the secound or minute but still a fairly good estimate.
We already have rought estimates for space travel, by the time moving between solarsystems is done, we will have estimates down to a fraction of total flight time. If you AFK travel for 30min, an estimate should be able to tell you on the minute when you arrive.

Traveling AFK is one of the only afk "activities" i support, since it leaves you and your ship in space for someone to engage. Compared to AFK cloakers its a diffrent world, and compared to active people dock up whenever someone enter system it provides more content

Whilst I agree, there is an argument that is something sufficiently boring - then that game aspect is flawed and should be looked at.

Nobody afk's the fun stuff.

Maybe we should be making more stuff fun Smile

I feel like jumping 15 jumps in my Orca is boring as crap. And there's literally nothing anyone can do to make it interesting.

I got bumped off a gate by a Mach before when I was jumping. He literally just bumped me off the gate for more than an hour. I just logged because I couldn't do anything 15 mins in, I came back 30 mins later, he's still bumping me. You know how interested I was? I was even more bored.

+1, but only if it recomputes the ETA upon jumping into a system, not continuously (for server load reasons). While I don't encourage AFK gameplay, we do have tooltips that display module stats, ship information, etc. and this seems like an "in-family" addition.

Ever try fitting a 100MN MWD to your Orca and piloting it instead of letting autopilot do it for you? Arrive in system, press "Jump" on your destination gate (or "Dock" on your destination station), immediately run your MWD for 1 cycle, and you'll be in warp as soon as that cycle ends. You'll make every warp (except when you undock because you're already at speed) in 10 seconds instead of 30-something, and it makes you far less vulnerable to bumpers.

Aeh, not really on topic, but my orca warps in under 12 seconds, not sure what you are doing ? (and I am fully tanked). I never get bumped, cause everyone thinks they got time for the sloooooo..., what he warped ?!

AP = you deserve to be punished, by every mechanic and extra work, get your own calculator, frig, shuttle, to 1 minute per system ... do the ETA math yourself.

No more tips from me.

This trick has been around as long as Orcas have. I am constantly amazed by the fact that it's not more commonly known.

The first thing that would happen is that all of these ETA's would be recorded in a spreadsheet by CODE and broken down by system, so that they know exactly how much time between gates they have to prepare for a gank, and every route would be camped according to traffic and efficiency.

Its a simple thing that would make the life of some players easier. I could program it in a few minutes, I guess CPP can do it in a few hours. The hardest thing about this is probably to decide where to put the information in the UI. It would not impact the servers because it can be calculated by the client. There is no downside.
