Which upgrades do I need, to play this game smoothly on high graphics settings?

Here is my system:

i7 930 @ 2.8 ghz
6GB DDR3 RAM 1333 mhz
Geforce GTX 295
1 TB, 7200 RPM HD w/ 32 MB Cache

If I turn all the effects on, and optimize graphics settings for "quality", it becomes a slide show during large fleet battles.

If I upgrade the graphics card to a GTX 580, will that be able to run a large fleet fight smoothly on high settings?

Or, are large fleet fights also RAM / Hard Drive intensive, and do I need to upgrade those as well?

I understand that a lot of the lag comes from the server, but I would like my video display to be smooth so it's not choppy.

ive got an i7 2600K & i got the GTX 580. Runs fine, however, i do have 16GB RAM.

tho ive yet to be in a fleet with 1000 ppl on grid....
