Why would they take away something people love so much.

In poor Countries where children don't have video games they need to get AK-47's and play there Team Death Matches out on the street.

People often get injured from this roughhousing. Give them FPS Games and less people would be hurt.

All kidding aside, I fail to see how the Red Cross intends to do anything about this -- I mean, I can understand if it encourages the violation of international law, or human-rights abuses, but a video game? Really?

Are we supposed to take GlaDOS's feelings into account the next time we play Portal? Is Chell somehow having her digital rights supressed? I don't get it....

If we're being serious, then I think it stems mainly from the fear of cognitive association; that is, when someone does something and feels good, they tend to instinctively associate that action with feeling good (and vice versa). Thus, people who enjoy "violent" video games will tend to unconsciously associate playing those games and feeling good, and thus unconsciously seek to play such games not simply for their own merit but as an instinctive defense mechanism to alleviate negative emotions.

The fear is that this association might jump the tracks from playing violent video games to actually performing the violence in the game. This fear may be valid to the extent that games like CoD and BF can promote a 'war is awesome' mentality in some individuals, but to say that they can turn a previously neurotypical individual into a homicidal psychopath is, I think, ridiculous.

I agree. To the best of my knowledge, there has never been a proven causitive link between computer games and real-world violence. To assume that someone is going to play Call of Duty and suddenly pick up an assault rifle and decide they like shooting people is quite farfetched; even if that were the case, I'd still put my focus on any pre-existing psychological issues they may have, rather than a computer game.

Anyone who cannot distinguish the vidya from real life needs psychiatric help. In reality I'm a good guy, just, and generally incorruptible. In the vidya, I'll sometimes play the bad guy just for kicks because no one is harmed in the process, but I'm also just as likely to play the paragon of Justice. The fear of cognitive association run rampant is a slippery slope at its finest.

How do video games violate international Humanitarian law? Or is it that you can perform actions in video games that would violate international human law?

I'm glad their priorities are in order. I also must assume that places that really need red cross assistance the kids probably dont have computers or internet...

Hmm I wonder if im considered a war criminal for mvp 1 medal in BF3? If that is the case... It feels sweet.

When will you people wake up? Skyrim comes out and within a week people all over the world are getting shot in the knees with arrows... and you still think video games have no influence on our youth? What a disgusting topic.

This is such a vital and important issue, I'm glad the Red Cross is finally devoting time to look into it instead of wasting all that time on real life problems.
