History repeats itself all the time. Has anyone rebooted their machine after the update?

They say most of your brain shuts down on the EvE forums. All but the impatient side, and the sarcastic side. No wonder I'm still awake.

i don;t need to tel the pc which partisan to boot to, which is the function of boot.ini. if you have more then one partisan your pc gets confused as to which is the boot drive. Thus you get an error.

Always make sure you have a few extra boot.ini, they're on the market.

That's not the only thing it does, it also tells the PC where on the drive the windows folder is. If your boot.ini is missing, it will look at \Windows on the first partition of the first drive, regardless of how many partitions you have. If that's where your OS is located it will boot, if not, it won't. It's not some mystical setup.

Maybe it's time you upgraded to an actual OS rather than a Fisher-Price™ toy…

What would you consider to be an actual OS?

Anything that doesn't include a world-writable boot.ini, obviously. Blink

On a more general scale, anything that stores or permits anything in the root directory. One of the really fun things you could do back in the NT4.x/NT5.x days was to simply write-protect sensible locations such as c:\ or the “All users” folders (and the HKLM\…\Run* and HKCU\…\Run* registries) and see which programs choked to death for not being allowed to defecate freely all over your install.

:D
I don't think it's world writable, just everyone's an admin, which is worse.
If I had to choose between an OS with everything readily available which can be easily broken, and an OS with nothing available that is stable as hell though, I'd go easily breakable every time.

Just use a pair of solid boots, slippers won't do. I prefer a good pair of mountain hiking boots myself.

I certainly miss the three tier OS's, root, supervisor and user.

Am I one of the only people playing this game who uses a bog standard single partition harddrive and only has one OS on their single drive out of the box and plug it in PC?

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Have they been putting something in the water again?

We must accommodate the idiocracy.
