I would say I am a casual player, been playing off and on since 2005, and I have been around the Eve block a few times by now. Member of a big coalition and very devoted to fleet fighting-I enjoy all that 200 people in comms, TiDi, tons of bracets, being part of a team. As a casual player I make my isk by either bounties in null (ratting anoms) or buying the occasional PLEX and I pay a monthly sub for my main and alt accounts. As you know, I’m sure, everyone is encouraged to move up to capitals as that is fleet end game, well… one of the fleet end games but the most important to alliances and coalitions. As I am at that point now in skill training, after having flushed out pretty much all the sub cap skills, I have been doing the isk math on a dread. Below is what I have come up with.

Coalition Dread-fitted and ready for fleet: 4 billion…I think this is accurate.

Now as a casual player I get in at most 5 to 6 hours a week play time with a weekend day reserved for fleets-I have a job, family and responsibilities. With anoms I “realistically” pull down about 16 million a tick. Sometimes I can hit 20 but that is rare with ‘ceptor gangs roaming the pipe and that sort of thing.

So, 4 bil/16mil per tick is 250 ticks. 250 ticks * 20 minutes per tick is 5000 minutes. 5000m/60 minutes per hour is 83.3 hours. At 6 hours per week farming is 13.8 weeks of my life to afford a fleet fit Dread.

Now that is just for the dread. Not including sub cap ships, insurance, clones, implants, ammo…you see where this is going?
I like to play Eve not play Farmville Eve. So, that means PLEX. Oh and let’s not forget when the dread gets blown into space dust by a DD or hot drop o'clocked I get SRP but it won’t cover stuff like insurance or implants so I will have to come up with a chunk of isk for that as well.

Now a PLEX currently pulls about 800 mil if I am not mistaken. So, for 4 bil I would need 5 PLEX at $20 a PLEX. On top of my monthly subs I also have to dish out $100 large to ride a party barge in the cap fleet and that is just the initial purchase on the dread alone.

SCREW THAT. Lol

At any rate, thank you for reading my rant, I am sure it was not the first on here and I’m sure it won’t be the last by someone else; but such is the price we pay for obsession, right?

If u are not. Asking north of 100m a hour casual ur doing it wrong. Still that's 40 hours to fly ur dread. But 100m a hour is very low income.

20mill per tick?

THAT'S HILARIOUS! XD

Before this gets locked for ranting, I'll chip in by saying; you could do a mixture of grinding and plex, grind for 125 ticks instead of 250 and grab 3 plex. Secondly plex are on sale right now: 2 for $31.49, so that maks it easier. Thirdly you could grab 6 plex for $94.47 then chuck the last plex on the market at say 900mil - will take a month or two to be snapped up - but then you'll have a start on the next project or you will have enough to cover any loss of your original dread - thus you are getting two dreads for $100.00

So I thought this was how the average CFC player looked after you decided to rent out space.
Now if these alleged trillions of income don't find their way into your mouth or your superiors don't see any importance in subsidizing a sizeable cap fleet, may I politely suggest that you discuss this problem in private with your corp or alliance on your own forums?

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

I don't... I can't.. what? Even raiding a single c2 I can net a min of 150m isk an hour, if I get nano ribbons. I can do 300m isk an hour in a c3 with nanoribbons. I used to pull in a lot more then 20m isk doing anoms in null, but that was in the day. Isnt the sanctum worth like 40m? Its been a while, but you seriously are doing it wrong. I could prolly make more mining then you could ratting. Hell mining a single gas cloud in wh will net me more...

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

For shame, GD.

Oh, and can I have your stuff, OP?

Before (ed, after) you get backhanded hard, I really can see your point, having spoken to some awesome people through the years who are simply priced out of various types of gameplay and irritatated by being forced to grind to pvp. Which is really annoying, because a lot of the people who protest are genuinely good PVPers with no head for passive ISK making. It's not fair to measure those who can play 20 hours a day against people with jobs and families, but it happens. It's almost become a badge of honour to announce how much ISK you can make ph grinding just to keep up with the bratpack. If you know the ticks p/h to a precise degree in the first place - you're probably doing it wrong too (peasants).

Decent corps (esp in null) should maintain a cap handout pool for members. You might need to earn your way into to 'trusted status' and await handout, but it allows a variety of fits, and they can control insurance etc. There are support roles for people who don't have the time to grind the ISK into expensive ships. Learn to use a Dic/Hic, and fly a Logi if you are poor (those usually fall under full SRP). Tbh a lot of people are priced out of cap ship warfare for a while, it's not uncommon.

Long term, either talk to your corp about maintaining a shared cap cache, or find a better corp. Consider passive ISK making via the market so your wallet isn't a continual gind. Gl ;)

Nice story, but I can't help but feel that of all the parts of the title, the end bit is the most relevant.

Are you really doing a [stuff] costs too much thread today? Really? Sigh.

Look buddy, I don't know if you got the memo or not, but today is reserved for "Y U NERF MAI HIGHSEC?!?!?!" or "GIMME REFUND BECASUE CRIUS WAAAAAHHHH!!!" threads. Even "I DIDNT READ DEV BLOG NOW IM SURPRIZED BECASUE X HAPPENED, ROLOLBACKPLZ KTHXBAI #UNSUB" might be acceptable today.

Get with the program. I don't have time to wade through stuff like this to determine what youre really after. No one wants to hear about where someone touched your terribad fit dread and refused to SRP it, or that your unhappy with your alliance because [reasons]. Now start whining about Crius, and ill get back to you.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Capital gameplay is for the birds. Let the people who think internet spaceships are serious business worry about plexing and grinding them. In the meantime, fit out a cloaky tackler of your choice and spend your free time hunting down said capitals and lighting a cyno for your own coalition, savoring each killmail all the more now that you have priced out what each capital you help gank costs.

I personally would consider this more endgame material than piloting a capital in a coalition. It's more about metagaming targets and their habits and less about waiting offline for a ping and fleeting up to press F1.

Wait, CCP kills kittens now too?!  - Freyya

I know this happens but I had not thought of doing it as I really don't know much about the metagame. Thx for the suggestion...sounds interesting and you make a good point.
