I have yet to run a fleet of anything more than 3 people, currently I am in Caldari FW and fed up of being unable to find fleets, is there any advice I could do with as I have never ran a fleet before?

GHIOT/-NME- run public fleets most days around 2000 Eve time, Look out for fleets from Bloc, Templis and Hecon alliances too. Not sure what TZ your in if your not seeing any activity tbh.

I have seen fleets, but they seem to be for corp/alliance members only.

Yeah your biggest problem in FW is that public fleets are trash fleets usually and the FC's running them do so out of charity. Generally most decent fleets are closed off because of SPAIZ and doctrines (however loose they are).

As an example, last public gang I ran I very specifically told people you can all join but you MUST bring kiting frigates. What happens, 1/2 of fleet goes 'oh i came with blaster incursus bro'. Now I'm the arse who either says 'go away' or I deal with it, let them in then they moan that they died.

I now don't do public fleets.

So my advice, join a decent sized corp, go through the recruitment process because by doing so you will satisfy the opsec requirments at a basic level. After which most people are fine with guys stepping up to learn to FC, just start with cheap ship gangs and work upwards.

why would you even attempt a public fleet with a kite doctrine? maybe the problem is FC expectations rather than what the rabble can deliver. the problem exists with the "elite" fleets too, FCs see a chan full of pilots they trust and suddenly T1 cruiser roam turns into HOW MANY GUARDIAN PILOTS DO WE HAVE?

The point of telling people to bring kite ships is more for morale than anything else. The doctrine doesn't have to be kite for a support fleet to be mobile.

Just start a fleet and get after it.

Er because it's not hard. Each race has kiting frigates that can be used in low sp. Its not about my high expectations at all, in fact if I thought so low of people that telling them to fly a kiting t1 frigate was too hard for them and just take an f1 brawler would I not just be some aloof prat?

I am an advocate that EVE pvp is not hard, its only the UI that's a whore to understand. The reason brawling is seen as route 1 to pvp newbs is only because its a complete chore to teach the methods required to become a good kiter. I like to show people the things that make that simple to understand kiting and how to use it effectively.

that's a lot of optimism for someone who has their public FCing career ruined by a few incursuseses P what's wrong with just rolling with what you got? gives you the opportunity to make snide comments about fights the fleet could have taken if everyone had just come in the hulls you asked for

A pubbie FC is measured by his or her ability to take a kitchen sink fleet of garbage and actually kill something. This usually means taking a suicidal dive into a superior force that's already been notified of your comp and location by the spies in your fleet. The way you go around this problem is by heading somewhere so chaotic and hot already that spies are just reporting one more mass of idiots coming to party. So basically, round up as many warm bodies as you can muster and head to huola.

Start a fleet, go camp a gate. It's easy to run and gives you a good way of learning how to handle the swarm of nerds at your disposal. You'll snag a few kills while you wait for someone to come and give you a real fight. Once you're comfortable with that, you can become a bit more mobile. Plexing fleets work too, but they tend to be less popular.

If you decide to go with a loose doctrine, use something you're used to flying. Be a **** when people ask if they can bring something else. Try to have people you know ready to support you when the **** hits the fan, don't expect people you don't know to pick up your slack.

Have absolutely no regard for your fleet members, fly something cheap, and welp your guys ASAP. No downsides.

basic idea of being FC is to know what to do and when and guide your fleet to do something that fleet members are exited about.

sometimes exploding is the main reason why people setup fleets and that is really easy to FC, just remember to tell before hand what is the current function of the fleet.

Whenever I FC, it's my goal to get my entire fleet killed. I publicly state as much before we undock. That way if anyone survives, they're very happy about actually making it. If they don't... well, they knew what they were getting into.

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

You FW folks like to bicker and nit pick a lot.

FC is pretty easy. Just get a couple of guys that will listen to you, fleet up and go do stuff. Call some primaries. Learn what does and doesn't work. That's it.

Get the right guys and you'll have fun. Get a bunch of whiney ninny nit pickers and it really doesn't matter what you do - it won't be fun. If the above crap is a representative sample of how FW folks do business - you're doomed if you're trying to have fun.

Find some mellow guys that like playing the game and enjoy!

We run almost all our fleets open to alliance + blues. If you're interested in joining our fleets talk to a Templis CALSF diplo about getting a +5 standing.
