I updated my character's avatar using the in-game recustomization tool, and the portrait updated ok in game. But when I log in to the re-customization tool I still see my old character avatar.

Would deleting some file/s help resolve this?

What data do the files in: X:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\e_eve_tranquility\settings contain? Would deleting some/all of these resolve this issue?

core_char__.dat
core_char_90684650.dat
core_char_1932439444.dat
etc etc

Do I have too many of these?

Or is the avatar info stored server side? I'd have thought it would be client side cache?

PS: I have already cleared the cache and manually deleted the backup cache

Go into the cache folder and portraits. That's where your cache is - however sometimes it takes a bit for the server to update itself so give it a day or so and I'm sure it will be updating fine in-game and on the forums.

Try deleting the whole cache folder and all it's content, don't touch the settings folder at this point.

Hi thanks for the replies.

To be clear the issue is not that the in-game portraits do not update. It is that the avatar does not update in the character-customization area. So I create a new portrait but when I go back to change it again at some later date, the previous one is there by default resulting in my being forced to completely re-create my avatar or revert to the 'old' one.

I have also deleted all the cache files and backup files.

I like how the client has a 'delete cache' function that doesn't delete any of the cache. But keeps it all in backup folders - mine was 1.8 gb ffs.

The avatars are stored server side, all that is stored on the clients is the portrait image. You need to complete the redressing of your avatar and complete the process with taking the portrait and exiting customization screen. Once that has occurred your new avatar should appear when walking around in CQ. Your portrait should be updated to the new image, other players will not see your new portrait for about a hour-ish

I have taken a brief look at this character and i can't see anything off. The last update was 2011.05.30 21:05:21 which was a long time ago, send me a mail if it was a different character and i will take a peek.

Hope this helps.

Yeah the issue might be related to my using multiple client instances perhaps?

And yeah, I'm not having any issues updating my avatar however; as I explained (badly granted), when I go back to re-customize the character again, the recustomization screen shows my old avatar (ie the one previous to the one I have).

Anyway I'll mail you the character in question (in fact its happening with two on seperate accounts).

Thanks again.
