Just stumbled upon a new SciFi MMO being created called Event Horizon, now I know it's actually quite the meme, especially in regards to World of Warcraft, but let's face it, eventually game killers are released!

http://www.eventhorizon-online.com/ It happened to UO, it happened to EQ, it will happen to wow, and it will happen to Eve.

If this thing actually makes it out the gate, how do you feel it will effect Eve?

It looks like it could be a solid MMO, but by the looks of it, it's only in the crowdfunding stage on... Indiegogo?

While I am curious about it, I think Eve has some time lol

edit: and honestly... who here doesn't want to see wow fall Roll

Uhhhh, me. WoW expertly fills a market demand for a low personal requirement, variable participation, shallow learning curve game. If WoW actually does fail it would be like Coke or Pepsi going out of business; there would be a systemic underlying problem with the entire industry.

WoW serves a lot of purposes within the MMO gaming space and honestly I could write a thesis paper about the topic, but needless to say I hope it stays around for a long time.

Back to the OP: The reason EVE will never die is due to one very strong word: Investment. Playing EVE requires an investment in time, energy and ISK. People who have played for a few years will be extremely leery of dropping all that investment to go do something else.

That's my situation. I've quit EVE several times just to realize a couple months later how much time and investment I've put into my characters and then I find an excuse to come back in order not to squander the last 9 nine years of skill training and ISK earning.

People will hear about it and try it out, like they did with Perpetuum, but then they'll be back in New Eden before long.

That game looks like it missed its original release date of 1993.

The future flop that is Star Citizen will kill Kickstarter and any other attempts at a Space MMO.

EvE will live forever by default.

It's a glorified pitch, a step up from a concept.
I'll raise an eyebrow if it sees a full release.

Imo the only thing that could kill eve is ccp, which they might do, they might not, but I don't see it being killed by another mmo.

Apparently unfunded, check out the hiring page.

Also read the FAQ.

Overall it looks like 3 butt hurt EVE WiS players who created a web page.

EVE Killer?

There are around 300,000 of them.

You are talking to some of them right now.

Eve will never die.

There is an old old saying, "old soldiers never die, they merely fade away"

Eve will either in some way retain it's youth, and learn how to encourage people to have fun, or will simply fade, until one day someone says to you, "didn't you use to play eve! That was cool "and discover that it is still going, run out of a bomb shelter, behind the fish warehouse.

As for this new game? I doubt it will ever get as far as the fish warehouse in the beginning.
But hey, Surprise me, if you can make it good, and make it work, without blowing a wad of other peoples money, go for it.

There is one EvE. Many people. Many lifestyles. WE are EvE

EVE killer? I doubt it.

EVE alternative? I can see that.

Not being one of the fearful fanbois cowering in a corner muttering, "Only EVE, only EVE", over and over, I look forward to any potential space game release. Yes, they may be vaporware right now, but one can always hope.

It's a big big world folks and less than half a million of us play this game. That leaves a pool of six billion or so to play another space game without having any effect on this one. So you can stop attacking any idea that's not EVE. You'll still get to play your game no matter how many other games in the same genre are produced.

Edit: As well, there needs to be a space game for all those people you don't want in your EVE. See various threads on the front page for examples.
