How are storyline agents selected?

Hey guys.
I'm running courier missions to get my faction standing up, and would like to figure out how to ensure that I get caldari navy security storyline missions instead of the prompt delivery courier missions that I have been getting.

It seems that whenever I run 16 missions for Sazonemi Oilja I get a storyline mission from Santo Otasen.

Does anyone know how the storyline mission is selected?

Thanks,
Pick

you do 16 missiosn and then the NEAREST storyline agent in picked for you, if you have a SL mission in waitign and get another, its next nearest.

and all SL agents hand out random missions there is NO all combat/mining/courier SL missions. ( yet )
where is my ability to link a sig properly CCP you munters!!

Well, that's not quite right. Storylines are triggered after you run 16 missions for the same faction of the same level. The storyline agent chosen will be the closest SL agent from the same faction to the last agent you completed a mission for (the 16th mission). If there are two or more SL agents equidistant to your last mission agent, your SL agent will be determined randomly (preference is given within region and, iirc, within constellation).

There is no way to predict or affect what storyline mission you'll be given. Every SL agent can give any SL mission (though he/she will only give a SL mission that corresponds with the level of missions you just completed). There have been claims that running lots of, eg, combat missions will make you more likely to get a combat SL mission; the data available does not support this assertion.

example i run missions from Poinen from a internal security agent aftr about 16 missions i get a SL agent message me from 1-3 jumps away. once you get a SL run it as fast as you can. usually its a courier of 5-10 jump mission. your standings will go up rather slowly but whenever you get an offer from another agent take it right away...

it's not random. at least, it wasn't about half a year ago. i had two storyline agents at 1 jump and i was always getting storylines from the same agent (unless i kept mission non-completed/undelivered).

base agent was: Theology Council in Jarshitsan/Avib/Domain
first storyline agent was: Khinsah Hakban/Imperial Shipment in Luromooh/Kehina/Domain
second storyline agent was: Amafi Loun/Carthum Conglomerate in Hadono/Avib/Domain

so, same region, but agent in different constellation was favored. it's prioritized by either agent ID (most likely) or surname.
