If memory serves, VMWare Player doesn't let you create new VMs; for that you need to get yourself a copy of VMWare Workstation at €225 for a new licence!

Alternatively, why not have a look at VirtualBox, it's free and there are several freely available VM images out there for you to download and have a tinker with Smile Then you can try out various different OSes, dev tools, host a set of "dedicated servers" for web, db, etc.

As for some of the old games, I also make use of DOSBox. Games like Frontier (Elite II) work a treat in that!

Yes, this is an account alt; it's to protect you from the misdeeds of my main ;-)

A number of things like AD, domain, web and mail server as well as DNS.

Two Windows Server 2008/2012.
Two Windows clients.
Two Linux clients.

Four homelab VMs where I basically just tinker, learn and ruin stuff.

I stand corrected. Last time I tried it, it required VMs to be created with the Workstation product. Because of that (and I am a cheapskate), I tried VirtualBox and was very happy with that and have been ever sinceBlink

We use Virtual Box to run our accounting software on a Windows 2000 VM.

In case you wonder, we still have the Windows 2000 PC, just we don't turn it on any more.

And I was using it until last March. Cool

Q: Should we be worried? A: Nope. (...) Worry a lot if Fozzie, Masterplan, Rise, Veritas, Bettik, Ytterbium, Scarpia, Arrow, or even Greyscale leaves. Worry a little if Punkturis, karkur, SoniClover, Affinity, Goliath, or Xhagen leaves.
