I have 4 people I work with.

The owner can't send an e-mail without help, neither can the manager.
Co-worker 1 speaks english as a 4th language so I have trouble getting him to understand some of the concepts in EvE.
Co--worker 2 is an idiot who barely understands how to turn his brother's computer on so he can LAN a 15 year old crappy RTS.

All know I play EvE, though none understand it.

Still trying to save for a laptop so I can play at work. Currently writing this on my phone at work.

They play candy crush on their phones and their kids play console games.
When I have tried to explain to them what an open ended MMO is, they look at me like lobsters are crawling out of my ears.

I have the same problem.. Anyways, EVE online is a lie, this post isn't real. Everything is all a lie, i'm still working in my cage.
This is me Beta testing the new WoD, Blizzard Entertainment approves of such actions Blink

EVE online is a MMO ? "gasps" ShockedP

EVEBoard ...Just over 60million skill points, each skill was chosen for a reason. I closed my eyes & clicked another skill to train... "BINGO...!!!" ... "This time i got something usefull"

Being a twenty something American male I frequently end up in conversations about video games, and seeing as how I only play eve, well, I'll talk about it. Admitting you play a mmo doesn't instantly make you a pariah to the rest of the world, believe it or notBearCoolBear

Most are aware and convinced I am mad in the head :D had a good few conversation with a few of them about gaming although most of them are console jockeys and barely get past FIFE or Madden.

Had one colleague who really got into the game then he went AWOL completely

Yes. Even recruited one who played off and on for a year. We still laugh about the ships we lost trying to get him his first kill mail.

a few do, but none of them play themselves, as far as i know.

only two of them even know what it is though, due to being gamers themselves. the others just know it as a game i play on my computer.

In a few moments you will have an experience that will seem completely real. It will be the result of your subconscious fears transformed to your conscious awareness.

I had my desktop set to a drawing of a Rokh during a customer presentation. One of them asked if it was from Star Wars.Shocked

So no.

Closest was a guy who played Dust for a while, but he left the company.

I live in a tiny rural community where being a reclusive gamer type is frowned upon, so no I will never tell my co-workers I play Eve much less let them know I spend time on video games. Thank goodness I am naturally athletic so I can participate in Basketball/Softball leagues in the area or my wife and I would be ostracized :D

I started playing a year and a half ago and got two co-workers and my boss to play. Unfortunately one coworker could not get into it (but at least tried it out) and the boss did not have enough time to spare. As for the other friend at work, he still plays to this day and is a whiz at manufacturing.
So we get to talk EvE all the time. Good to have someone you can tell all the good stories to and listen to their exploits as well; makes the day go by faster!

And if so, how did you bring it up in the initial conversation? How do you describe the game to them? And what reactions do you get when people find out you play EVE?

The rifter figurine hovering over my name on my desk is usually a giveaway. If they somehow miss that, the fact that I never shut up about the latest kills gets the message through. Also, the head of development, and one of the senior managers used to play.

It just so happens that my cubical neighbor worked in the game development industry for 10 years before coming to the company I work for now, and he had played EVE on and off since beta (it's nice to be able to spout off and have someone understand me). I was also able to talk one of the other guys in my department into trying it, but he got bored very quickly and quit without making it through the trial.

I have a big EVE bumper sticker on the back of my car, and no one has ever really noticed. I was expecting honks on the highway and heaps of accolades at the bar, but no dice.

Must be joking! 130 ish colleagues and not one plays PC games or even how to install one. IT assist is not my job but, over the years, I find their lack of IT skills to be sad and disturbing. A couple of managers couldn't figure out why a new PC wasn't working - it wasn't plugged in! I'm seriously not kidding, and most my fellow EVEies will know what I'm talking about.

Have mentioned EVE to colleagues but they look at me as if I've spoken an ancient language. They would rather watch hours of Big Brother, There are some console gamers but they play CoD or BF.."yea, was wicked, got some points man!". One guy has actually said he wont play EVE because there are no PS4 Trophies.

So yes, some know but I may as well have told them that Cloud storage is actually in a cloud.

The older I get the more twitch gaming strikes me as silly.

Even in an FPS game it becomes more entertaining to sneak up on them and hit them in the head with a rifle butt.
