I actually got a co-worker to start playing, he even came to one of our Houston EVE Meetups but alas he found he had little to no time to actually play. A few others know, and one other guy actually tried but he's more of a WoW guy, so ... *shrugs*

I have an EVE themed wall paper on my workstation desktop too. :)

So, you're a bounty hunter. No, that ain't it at all. Then what are you? I'm a bounty hunter.

I want to stay employed, so no, I don't tell people at work I play Eve.
Why would I want people to know I am involved with a game that has attracted so much well-documented sociopathic behaviour in the media?

Yea, why would you tell people who pay you that you spend your free time playing a game you don't like made by a company you hate alongside people you despise. That wouldn't raise any red flags at work, I'm totally sure.

I've talked to a few people at work that have seen the forums up on screen, but no one really wants to know. They see the avatar and assume it's a role playing spaceship shooter game.

One guy I talked to about it likes the idea of blowing up ships, but if you can't "head-shot" something within 30 seconds of logging on he's bored. I asked him how long it takes him to get bored of the games he's played and he said he get's about a weekend's worth out of the FPS stuff he enjoys... I told him I've been playing for more than a year and that there are people who have played EVE for more than 10 years... ShockedShocked... we don't talk about gaming anymore... hehehe

I would enjoy having coworkers who I could talk to about EVE.

At a previous job I was shitposting on the forums during my lunch break, the area manager was in and caught sight of the screen as he passed behind me, he stopped for a chat, turns out he was in TEST.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Sure. What really surprised me is when someone at work called me to ask how many SP I had. I thought I was the only person in my company who played Eve.

In my small work group, I'm the EvE player, and we have one WoW player and one Second Lifer. The SLer keeps up on a lot of gaming news, so he's usually the one who brings up gaming.

I always sort of thought EVE was your job, Chribba Pirate Also, I work with a Goon, so he definitely knows I play, along with most of the other nerds. Nerds of a feather flock together, right?

It's been my experience that most people are so wrapped up in their own personal drama that after they politely ask you what you do for fun, they stop listening. They are just setting up an opening to whine about their own pathetic lives.

So, I guess you could say that there is not a lot of difference between my work and the EVE-O forums.

Yeah. I'm so obviously a dork that I don't bother hiding it. It helps my reputation as the computer guy though so I can't complain. Sadly nobody else at work plays eve but one guy plays D&D and Lord of the rings Online, so we get along great sharing D&D stories and ones from our respective MMOs. He might come over to the dark side actually. I showed him Asakai and the stupid "I was there" trailer then told him about a time when that actually happened in a minmatar kitchen fleet sink with a ****** warpin(possibly a spy in a covops) vs an smart sniper fleet. They had a couple long points and the FC was kinded ******** so me and one other Jag pilot fit for fast tackle caught em and pinned an Arazu and some other **** while everyone else who wasn't pointed warped out and came back in on top of us at point blank on their sniper fleet. Nothing like burning into point blank range vs an Arazu and scramming him while 50 warrior IIs all target you. Amazingly I lived because once I pointed the Arazu our logis switched to repping me and I had a pre-Nerf med ASB against pre-buff drones in a fast tackle jag.

Anyways I tell that story alongside the ****** trailer and now I'm gaining followers who will come over one day...

I used t work at best buy, all my co workers were WoW nuts that went to conan and other 'run around skill crap with sticks lvl up games' eventually I got tired of them talking about WoW so while testing a pc for video issues (I worked in geek squad) I loaded up an old fleet fight, put that full screen and let it run. Then got a lot of "what the heck is that?" and the conversations stated. lol. I got about 3 of my old co workers to play, two played for a year till irl got them.

My new job, I work for a third party company at intel, I mentioned it, but the co workers are older (i'm 33, they are in their 50's) so they are not the interested.

speaking as a guy about to turn 55 this year, don't sell us old '50 year olds' off so quickly

they might have the patience to actually appreciate a game that is not based on reaction time

Yes, yes they do.

Also, you're never too old to play EvE. Or be an ISD for that matter. A member of our CCL team beats Mike Azariah in ageShocked

(and no, it's not me)

Yes. And it is well documented by now Lol.

And if so, how did you bring it up in the initial conversation?

I don't remember.

How do you describe the game to them?

Competitive group play.

Michael Ruckert wrote:
And what reactions do you get when people find out you play EVE?

Only one colleague plays mmos and has a basic idea about EVE. The others don't seem to care.

Why would anyone bother? EVE is a RPG, not RL.
