Ok, what did CCP screw up in late '10? Was that Incarna?

Those 3 months were the months before Incursion.

Huh. When was monocle gate?

Eve is like a 2003 Grand Caravan. Eventhough, it was one of the worst cars build in 2003, I still see some when I am driving (not all the time but on occasions).

Ok, a couple of possibilities:

Shader Model III support became mandatory around that time.
The new character creator was announced, which I think coincided with everyone finding about WoD.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Nice graph, so based on that, we can see that eve is in fact not drying lol.

But to what point I am going to make, the first graph you have with the average PCU doesn't really mean anything. The problem is that graph is trying to link random ingame activities with out of game activities. For example, test announces its going to low sec followed by a long dip in PCU. Then test loses last sov and it gets a bump. The issue with that is you can not make a causation from it. "Oh the player count started moving up after test lost its last sov... so that must be the cause of the dip." No, Oct is a good month for students to be settled in at school and getting there classes organized, in some business its also a lul period before the insanity that is the holidays. That's the issue with these type of threads, the eve is dying ones, you have base information:

the pcu is lower then last year, eve is dying

plexes are way up.. must mean people are not buying plex so less players.. eve is dying

ccp did not announce the subs this year... they must be super low.. eve is dying

ccp laid off some employees when they killed a project... ccp/eve is dying

ccp lost 20m... and i'll ignore that fact that they made 10m more in profit over last year, and the fact they did layoff in a restructure... eve is dying.

But no real reason to understand the base info. Its like if I told you the sun is hot. You could take that and go 'that tree is dying because the sun is hot' ignoring the fact that you have not watered it, or trimed it, or a million other things. There is no causation.

That's the issue. You have no real reason why things are as they are. EvE will die when ccp announces it on the dev blogs. till then, why worry? shut up, and play the damn game we all like. And if you don't like eve then why are you still here?

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

Hey, don't shoot me, I'm just counting words here.

Matter of fact, with your post you just added 6 units of 'eve is dying' to the July Death-o-meter. Talk about self-fulfilling prophecies!

The flaw with this tool that I see. You are basing yourself on the Recession word theory and trying to apply it to Eve's forums. In RL, nobody can really escape the economy (good or bad) so the economists will always comment on it. In Eve, people that no longer play the game cannot come on the forums to say the magic "Eve is dying" words. You cannot post when you are unsubbed, so for sure your numbers wont mean much. Specially if you have a few thousand people that left the game like it feels atm.

When you no longer play a game, you don't really care about it anyways and most ex-players wont bother comment about it!

Here you go, I just ganked your new toy !! Next time be aligned and fit a tank! Lol

Wouldn't that be equivalent to a business journalist ragequitting the New York Times to start a bar in Playa del Carmen? His opinion would be no longer noteworthy, except regarding margaritas.

Starving Madox Day?

On I side note, I regret not being around 11 years ago, the forums were quite spunky. A few select quotes from that thread:

a single sticky message on the forum saying we apologise for the 4 hour downtime and maybe an explination of why it took twice as long as advertised, would not go amiss. People can generally forgive mistakes, but only if an apology is made.

I am sorry. I will not manhandle your girlfriend again while drunk. Though she did snog me first !!!!!!!!

Yes, they should bow down to your feet, kiss them, and then move up to your ass.. What kind of richious stick do you have up your butt?

we are the customers here. we are paying for a service. we have every right to question what is going on. now granted, isk refunds for missed productivity and asking for some sort of public appology that all the devs signed is just plain silly. however, a dev CAN take 35 seconds out of their busy schedule and make a small post on the devblog letting the paying customers know what is going on. *eve is dying*

I can only assume that since you actually noticed or care how long the downtime is that you are either A) a REALLY dediated trader who gets up in the pre-dawn hours to be on when downtime is done or B) Live in europe and dont have a job (why else would you be home in the middle of the day to notice the downtime was extended).

if you really miss the 2 hours send me your bank account and I'll reward you personally for your lost 2 hours which makes 13$/30day/24h*2h=0.0361 CENT wow, thats a big one, make it 4 cents, I'll gladly pay, now shut up and stop whing about a normal thing like server maintainance.

Once school is back in session alot of these whining elementary kids will not be noticing the downtime as they will be learing how to do long division.

I wonder if Farting could be a viable form of space travel ??????

Unfortunately, merely by posting an eve is dying thread, the eve is dying death-o-meter will return a biased amount of eve is dying posts for this month because people in this thread may very well use the phrase "eve is dying" which could throw off the total monthly eve is dying count.

Not to mention that threads could be start to oppose your death-o-meter which could also use "eve is dying" in a non-"eve is dying" way.

I'm guessing that large spike was the incarna expansion and the rapidly following "Jita riots"...

Actually we looked at that - Incarna was six months later.

I haven't been around long enough to really comment but, nullsec is always busy. There's constant pvp, and pve in between when it's safe. The only downtimes are late at night, and even then we have fleets and gangs flying through our system and all around catch. The only difference is that we don't have people on to fight them.
