The server has been in starting up mode for the past day at least, and I am wondering if it is just me?

The SSL certificate expired and seems they're just not going to bother buying a new one. :\ Even if the guy who needs to buy it for CCP is on vacation he should be able to take a few minutes out of his day to go 'Yes, this is me, please issue it'

I can't even log on to the server presently.

I can download the new patches, and get the "Client is Ready" message, and Eve-Offline says 19 people are on Singularity, but I am also looking at Server: Singularity (Unknown), and "There was an error validating your account".

I have no idea what this all means.
How can my account which works on TQ not work on Singularity?

it is being mirrored . The 19 you see are devs prepping for expansion deployment. CCP GOLIATH addressed it in another thread.

This is our VIP mode. The 19 you see online will be developers and outsourcers. I'll take a look at getting that message reworded to be clearer though, thanks Smile
