Best bet is to find a quiet system off the beaten path if you want to continue jet mining in peace.

To answer the OP's main question, you should just try mission running. Trust me, much better and pays better than sitting in a belt for hours,and hours, and hours.

As a noob with no-one to tell me when i was doing something crazy, i would obtain large (for me) amounts of zydrine by making bookmarks above the belt, but off the grid. Drop a jetcan there and be sure to only visit it for a few seconds at a time. In a quiet 0.1 system i would mine with a burst, later a skiff, fill up a couple cans, refine in that system because that's where i was doing my L2 missions and wreathe haul back up the pipe to hisec.
Sure i could have been scanned down and killed, with effort i could have been ambushed or jumped badly. Never was once. Biggest hassle was belt rat spawns, i couldn't touch a BS rat then, so i'd go do a mission or move a jump or two.
Lost one skiff in 0.0 due to socket fail. Just barely made enough isk to bother.

Had a great time.
