Ok, I did the extreme and just formatted my whole hard drive and installed a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and completely fresh download of Eve. Been playing for quite a few hours, have not had the error occur since then. So if you are willing to go to extremes, it seems to work! Cool

Unfortunately the bug is really still there. It is much less profound. In two tests the bug appeared after 30 and 15 minutes of "normal" play.

Same Issue as before the Patch.

GM Karidor wrote:
Just out of curiosity (and my apologies if I missed it before):

Does that only happen in full screen mode, or is using the "Fixed Window Mode" on Desktop Resolution a potential workaround (as that would basically feel like full screen, but still is a window)?

Also, I had a report of a player that seemingly has been able to fix this behavior on his machine by completely nuking the client and all related cache and settings folders (see http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_default_directories) before reinstalling it using the latest full client installer (http://www.eveonline.com/download/). A bit of a sledge hammer method, especially as at this point I can't guarantee this to be working reliably, but possibly worth a try if you have the time and bandwidth to spare.

An the Issue appears when you have more than 1 Client on the same Machine running in full screen mode.
The Issue appears when you ALT-TAB to the other Client or CTRL-ESC to Desktop and then back.

Bug Report with Logserver Log is generated. (Post Patch)

Problem still persists after Crucible 1.0.1 patch.
Alt-tabbing is still the main primary cause for this issue.

Confirming problem still persists..... I didn't see anything in the 1.0.1 patch notes, or the client update that immediately followed, that addressed this. Issue continues to happen for me running 1 client in full screen. Has never happened to me in space, only in a station, but I think this may be just luck of the draw, as others have had the issue is space as well. It can happen within 1 minute of logging into the game, or after 1 hour idling minimized. Today I got the garbled rainbow-color window in the middle of the screen. Tomorrow I will try some scenarios between full screen, window mode, and fixed window to try and get an idea of what triggers this on my box.

I can confirm however, that it happens whether the "Load Station Environment" box is checked or not.

CCP Paradox - thanks for your continued follow-up on this. I wish we could give you something more concrete to go on, but everyone's experience seems to be slightly different. I'll continue to look at my XP machine to try and see something.

Just adding my voice to the choir.
I am also still suffering from this issue after the patch, I am running a single client in full screen using win xp.
Tabbing out of the game does seem to be the cause, tho last night the problem actually seemed worse as on one occasion jumping through a gate caused the display to glitch and min/maxxing would not clear the issue for me.

As of today's patch i have been mining and flying around for over an hour and there seems to be no more issue. if it rears its ugly head again i will certainly be posting but as of right now all is well.

thank you very much for sticking with this issue CCP Paradox. and thanks to all the others that help to make this game as awesome as it continues to be.

-UPDATE- the problem, while not as severe is still popping up from time to time... ...sigh... i thought it was gone...i was sooo wrong....:(

Just to keep giving you guys updates in the interest of transparency:
So we're still investigating, still nothing detailed but our first attempts at logging specific suspect areas failed. Which eliminates those areas out. Still working around the clock for a solution. The game reports the UI and sprites as being drawn, but of course they don't appear, or some windows have lots of missing things.

Again as a workaround, what I have found is when the problem happens, resizing the client if it is in windowed will resolve it and the UI will come back to life.
Or try switching from fullscreen to windowed when you get the problem. Those two seem to bring all of the UI back. Hope to make several attempts today at finding the problem after more detailed log gathering.

After you alt+enter, try resizing the window to fit. Or maximize the windowed client (it should maximize and not go fullscreen).
That seems to bring the UI back for me. Hopefully it will help you out too.

Another workaround would be to not alt-tab while undocking but this seems to be a dirty habit I picked up some time back to switch music or jergblerg on the forum.

Will try the resizing workaround shortly and let you know.

Edit 1: Ok literally just had the issue tabbing to type this post, while jumping a gate with the new effect of the jump button. Just to confirm resizing the window after a switch from full screen appears to have returned my windows (albeit due to shrinkage they overlap with the overview).

Edit 2: Just to point out that the resizing workaround is not 100% effective. I just auto-piloted into a station while alt-tabbed, and when I tabbed back I had the "colour blocks" outlines of windows. Changing to windowed mode and resizing the window did not as before "redraw" the UI. Instead I just had colour outlines, so this is a priority 2 incident (if you use those 4 standard incident categories for testing/development) since I needed to log out and restart the client as there is not workaround.

Stop, get out, have pint or 5, cuddle family or comparative.

Then get back to work ;)

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

This was not a problem during Incarna but began for me as soon as Crucible Deployed. I lost the screen-flicker that was present when starting EVE in Incarna but this is much worse. So it's an XP issue, I was tinking it was a graphics card problem so I updated the drivers to no avail.

Not sure it makes a difference but I resized my UI to 90% as soon as I saw the new font and realized how much info space I was losing due to it's size. Anyone running on normal font/UI size with these same problems?

I've tried to avoid ALT+TAB for quite awhile and use the Windows START (x2) on my keyboard to switch to my alt because of a 2-6 second mouse/cursor delay using the ALT+TAB.

Able to play both characters for several hours a couple nights ago in a WH. Scary-nervous when the problem erupts. It causes the ESC button to show a blank screen also so one is unable to properly log out.

Can sadly confirm that running at 100% font/UI size will cause this problem to appear

And can also say with 100% certainty that the problem will occur even when only running 1 client and not alt-tabbing or using Windows key to minimize the EVE client (running fullscreen). Ok it will keep running normally for a bit longer but even without running a second client and/or going into Windows it will still happen.

Hope they can get this fixed. My pc can't run Windows 7 because of a driver issue so I'm stuck with XP until I win the lottery so I can afford a new pc P

Adding my voice here first time ever about any patch.
XP client nothing special but I often run x3 characters and sometimes carefully I can run x4 characters on the same box. Have done for years. Since Crucible I've encountered this disappearing UI all the time. Makes playing +tricky+ I usually just windows_button to my desktop and wait a while then back in and it has settled down (enough for me to finish whatever I was doing).
One odd thing that I've encountered not read it documented in this thread. If I goto desktop and EVE is minimised and then after a while my screen saver launches then I have no mouse pointer (eeek no control at logon screen). I then tab my way down the list of users on my client then password and I'm back in at my desktop and the mouse pointer is returned.
Thanks to Paradox we know CCP are seeking a solution. Please feed the hamsters (oh and get some sleep yourselves)

p.s. don't make me install Windows 7.

I have the same disappearing windows/UI issues.

Using Win 32 XP SP3 with the latest dx / 258.85 driver.

I´m running two clients from two diffrent folders, first client got these UI issues and the second client works still fine.
Settings are almost the same. When crucible had deployed i was adjusting the UI to 90% with the main account, i didn´t touch the Alt account UI scaling wich is using the second installed folder.
Mayby that helps a bit. (sry for my worse english)

Just for the record, this has nothing to do with resizing the UI.
I never touched that option and I can't play on 2 accounts even 5 min without this bug happening.

There is one thing I just remembered though...
Before Crucible I had some issues with the main items hangar window on my 2nd account. He's an industrialist and has a lot of items in his hangar (bpc's, materials, salvage and components, many cans). Strangely it happened only on that account.

Sometimes the items disappeared and I had to scroll down for them to return. When I scrolled back up they disappeared again. This only happened a few times so it wasn't annoying enough to file a bug Roll
Anyway, the items didn't disappear completely. There were many colorful artifacts that replaced the icons. Much like in this pic:

http://i850.photobucket.com/albums/ab66/Mindnut_eve/20111201150303.jpg

Like i said it happened before the Crucible expansion and only a few times. Only client reboot would resolve this issue.
Hope this helps in any way.

Well, the game actually behaves like everything is drawn. For example cursor changes appropriately, I can click things and they work correctly, except that I don't see them (for example if I lose my hud and windows, but remember where which module was I can still activate them. Same for example with probes and hitting "analyze" button). The error migh be somewhere in passing the data through the directX

Same problem I just experienced though I hadn't alt tabbed. I'd launched drones and clicked to target an asteroid and suddenly lost all but the overview description window (not visible but they were functioning), a friend suggested changing from full screen to fixed window mode which seemed to work.
