EVE Won't Install on my 3.6 TB drive (drive E:)

Is this due to the size of the drive/partition, or due to a rumor I've heard that EVE will only install/run on the C: drive?

I have a 64 GB SSD as my boot drive, and don't want to pile 18GB of CCP stuff on there.

An error message would go a long way towards helping you.

I rather doubt Eve install cares about the size of the destination drive. If it was coded properly (per standard best practices guidelines) the install program would take no notice of the size of the drive other than ensuring there is enough free space. That value would be derived by asking the info of the underlying OS. This is called abstraction.

Now... I am assuming (there we go!) that you are running a newer version of Windows (at least XP, but you didn't say) and have formatted the drive with NTFS, not FAT32.

There was no error message. The installer, after me selecting the drive I wanted, shows that drive as having a negative space available, when the actual space avail is over 3 terrabytes. The drives/partition behaves normally with a number of other tests and applications.

This is a RAID 5 drive under Windows 7, and is NTFS or whatever newer protocol there is.

I'll post a screenshot and some more technical info when I get home tonight. I have a ticket in regarding this.

Meanwhile I'm looking for specific issues regarding Windows 7 and how it recognizes drives, although this is the only app/instance I've had trouble with so far.

Hi,

I would suggest that you try to install it on a smaller drive and then copy it over to your E: after to work around the problem.

Will that work okay? That wont' mess up the registry or updates or other path-dependent stuff?

Isn't that interesting Cascade - another user that has a small C: drive for windows and a larger drive for data. Maybe its a sign that you should pull your finger out and give us the capability of a location to save downloaded information rather than forcing us to accept what you chose to inflict on us

I am aware of my own ignorance and have checked my emotional quotient - thanks for asking

Exactly were is the problem in relocation your Users/foo home directories onto E:?
Windows has had support for that for only for 4 or 5 years.....

Or mount the "E:" disk as a NTFS directory somewhere under "C:".....

Moved the client folder over. Now it won't patch. C'mon, CCP, I though y'all were programmers. You didn't anticipate folks wanting to install the game on a drive of their choice?

install it on any drive then transfer it to the drive you want, if its not patching, thats a whole different story. There is nothing in the registry required for eve, which is why you can run it off a flash drive (8gb or larger)

Patched, then moved. Didn't know about the flash drive possibility. I might do that if I continue to have issues. Running beautifully now on my Sandy Bridge cpu and 5400 rpm drive array.

Or better yet, don't FORCE your stuff onto C: drive/partition when the game is INSTALLED to a different drive.

Using C: as "boot only" is an OLD WIndows technique with a LOT to recommend it.

Blindly following the Microsoft Model IS A VERY BAD IDEA - witness MS disasters lilke MS-DOS 4, WIndows ME, Windows Vista, that even MICROSOFT finally conceded had major issues for a VERY FEW examples of why.

Thanks for quoting and liking what I wrote - however, I am not sure about what you are or are not agreeing to
