Horrible static testing Eve Voice with USB Mic

Was trying to test eve voice out, after a long time away from the game, and the echo test results in very very loud static. I've tested it with a couple of mics (both usb) and it does the same thing.

If however I use the internal mic on the iMac, it seems to work.

Any ideas?

Also one thing to add. I don't think it is coming from sound going through the mic. If I turn the mic volume down, or even put it on mute, I get the same large burst of static.

I guess I'll also mention that I have no issues with the USB mic(s) in any other applications. It is only when using Eve Voice.

I'm on a Mac Mini myself, and yes, same thing. The massive wall of white noise that hits me is enough to drown anything I say during the echo test.

I use an external USB soundcard to plug the headset into, as the mac mini doesn't HAVE a microphone port - only a line-in (What was the general idea with that Apple? You dorks...)

iMac is the same way, in that technically a line in is an "upgrade" to a standard mic jack. Its just lame in the sense that you can just plug a mic into it.

Does the USB sound card fix the issue for you with Eve Voice?

The reason is why almost every recording studio in the free world uses Macs. It is a cleaner less noisy sound. It isn't much relevant now due to the advent of USB and Firewire, but back in the day all you had was serial, SCSI and line in. Line in was far superior to the unpowered port on win PC's for sound capture.

No, that's the thing. I'm assuming it'd work fine if I could find a pre-amped microphone to plug into the line-in, but I don't have one, so I'm using the USB soundcard - and the static I get from eve-voice is horrendous.

Hey guys, I had this issue too on my Mac with my Soundblaster headset.

This thing has 2 minijacks, that plug into the USB connector. Using it like this simply does not work. How I got it to work was simply plug the line out (headphone connector) into the line out of the iMac itself instead of into the USB connector. I think its something with mac creating some sort of loop through in the USB connector or something.

So all I have plugged in to USB connector is the Mic.

This solved my bug.

It is a bug in Mac OS X.

I took a look at this. While it indeed sound similar, unlike the others I don't seem to have any issues in any other voice program. I can skype for hours on end with no issues. I'm wondering why its just Eve Voice.

This is a real problem, in our tests we found that only internal mics work. This is nothing to do with the thread posted earlier regarding USB and OSX, it's an eve issue (I use USB mic on many other programs without this issue).

Only my iMac internal mic works, my boom mic plugged into the iMic USB connector just puts out a 'blat' of noise when I hold down the speak key and say something.

The static issue behavior varies from machine to machine. Apple even acknowledged that depending on how the applications call the sound modules it might lead to a problem, however, they also acknowledged the bug.

In other words, no matter how the application call the functions to the audio subsystems it should NOT render it unstable like it does. That is a problem for Apple to fix.

On the other side, CCP could work on EvE to improve how the sound works with the operating system, however, considering that there is no Mac client but in fact a windows client running through emulation software chances are almost close to none that they will dig into this, unfortunately.
