How do you find a WH and what do you do if you find one?

Sorry,

I'm new.

But I'm interested in trying different things in game.

Once I went to a WH that some mates owned but I got shot at by guns and died. It wasn't the most rewarding experience.

I'm ready to put my past behind me and try some exploration... so what should I be looking out for?

Thanks!

hehe, everything. WH does not have a local channel like all other types of space. SO unless they talk in local you will never know they are there. DScan and combat probes are your FRIENDS. Never go in a WH without a cloak and probes.

Thanks Lizzy.

I did the startup agent missions and learned how to do the probey thing. I mean, I remember doing it, I'm not saying I remember how to do it.

I don't even really understand what Dscan is.

I found the thingy on my GUI, opened it up and I've done some "directional" scans which was ostensibly "Dscan"... but other than figure out there were some cargo boxes floating around the system I was in it didn't appear to do much.

Hi Ronnie, I'll take your bait, welcome to the wormhole subforum.

Here you will find it's much like GD but we whine about different things, troll harder, have a stricter dress code and also enjoy a forum-likes requirement before anyone is taken seriously.

As for actual wormholes sir....

You find them by scanning down signatures in a given system. Some of those will turn out to be wormholes! These wormholes can often lead to other regions of known space but sometimes they'll lead to....the terror of unknown space! Shocked - a wormhole system.

Wormhole systems come in varying sizes called "Classes", from class 1 to class 6. You will find anomolies inside them, and not just the pilots, the NPCs are much tougher than most you'll encounter in known space and the difficulty in killing them increases with the size of wormhole (but so does the value of their loot!).

Once you find a wormhole you have numerous options. You can farm sites to make ISK from salvage, do relic/data sites like you can in known space (but these sites have NPCs in them you'll need to kill first, unlike in known space). You can even look for others who're running such sites and kill them for fun or profit. Another option is dying. There are numerous ways to die in a wormhole, including...

- Dying to the sleeper NPCs
- Dying to other players
- Dying to a POS
- Dying to yourself
- Dying to Jack Miton (what a way to go!)

Bookmarks and probes are essential when you explore a wormhole else you may not be able to get out otherwise.

Some really crazy people even LIVE in wormholes. I know, right. You can do that too one day, by anchoring your own POS tower in one.

Inside wormholes you will often find OTHER wormholes that lead to OTHER wormholes. Sometimes you'll find a hole that nobody lives in, you can sell such holes sometimes.

And much, much more.

Oh yeah, if you wanna start to farm wormholes for profit then (at least for the lower class/smaller holes) you'll need a good grasp of scanning, a well fit PVE battlecruiser and the ability to fly it reasonably well.

Learn to use your directional scanner well as it will be your best friend at staying alive. Search YouTube for some great scanning and Dscanning tutorials.

And don't forget to bookmark.

For WH guides and tips check the stickied threads in this section.

Edit: Actually just noticed the old guides are all gone...Sad

woot!

Thanks Candi, that was really informative and a nice summary.

The time I did go to a wormhole, the purpose was to escort a mate who was hauling a whack of gear or parts or something to build this POS thing.

As I recall they all lost a lot of money and everyone was grumpy about it for a while.

I am well trained in drones, fly a brutix navy issue (I know, I know why am I flying a brutix if my drone skills are my highlight) well I'm working towards a Domi now, and on the other side I have a well fitted Myrmidon.

I'm comfortable doing L3's and at the end of this week I'll have level 5 drone sharpshooting and I'll be going full time with my domi in L4's with a range outfit (sentries and the usual).

My main intention is to build up LP and faction rep but honestly I am just getting a bit bored with mission grinding.

I kinda want to branch out and try something new.

Thanks so much for the pointers - I'll maybe need to investigate scanning skills before I even attempt WHing.

You're very welcome Ronnie. I live to serve.

There's a ton more to wormholes, and it's a shame the old guides aren't stickied anymore, but you'll find most people happy to answer questions. Along with scanning tutorials you'll also find a ton of content on YouTube regarding wormholes and wormhole life.

Wormholes are a ton of fun and very different to the rest of EVE. They're not for everyone though, but you won't know if you like them until you get stuck in, make some money, die a few times or kill other folks.

Good luck! Gimme a poke anytime if I can give advice or answer a question.

If your actually serious about trying w-space.....

http://wormholes.info/wordpress/

Some of it is out of date but its probably the best place to start from zero.

I used it a lot when I first settled in w-space.

Also keep in mind that the type of ships you're going to want to be tra-la-la-ing around WH space in will be very very different than the mission ships you just discussed. A solo BC/BS nosing about WH space will be dead in a second. Small, agile and preferably cloaky (best = covops cloak capability) are your best bet for exploring WH space.

That's "explore" as in, looking around. The relic/data site type of "exploration" in WH-space is a different animal to doing relics/data in non-WH space (also known as K-space ... or "known space") because sites in WH-space have rats called sleepers. These hit pretty hard, harder than you might be used to in k-space. There are loads of threads/videos out there on how to do relic/data sites solo in WHs (which will only be in the lower class systems btw) if you're looking to do that. Just keep in mind that there are hordes of unseen mofos that live in WH-space whose main form of entertainment is hunting WH explorers and daytrippers.

On the other hand, if you want to be the hunter instead of the hunted, then check out these blogs:

http://evestealthbomber.blogspot.com/
http://www.wormholekiller.blogspot.com/

Please note that these are pretty old and may very well be out-of-date based on the current meta, but they at least can give you a taste for what kind of game play is possible in WH space.

Bottom line is ... expect to lose ships. If you can have fun and learn while doing it, then you can probably have a future in WH space, cause WH space is best space.

Oh, and as with anything in Eve, doing stuff with others usually offers better chances of success. Some of the newbro corps like BNI and Eve-Uni have WH space branches ... check out those guys if you want to learn with people.

Thanks Hatshe and Shinjo, I read all the links. some interesting playstyles and skill being showcased in both cases.

I think I've always been more of a defensive player, opting to build up defences i.e. a POS or something than go for the destructive approach and try to make kills on other players, etc.

But with my limited time in game maybe it's time to learn some new skills.

Perhaps you should look into one of the smaller corps that are in established wormholes - now be aware people who live in J-Space tend to be mistrusting and insular to begin with - I think it comes from our only form of human interaction tending towards 'hostile diplomacy' - that is and the end of a gun or missile launcher. When I first moved into a hole full time it was likened to living in a submarine (I'm sure that analogy gets thrown about a lot) - you live out of POS with shared facilities your ships will be available to any and all who have the same access rights as you do - so you have to learn some trust or keep all your shiny blingy ships safely tucked away at a station somewhere. Basically take only what you need into the hole as space is limited inside of a POS and initially you might be limited to the corporation's fleet doctrine anyway. The way I personally look at is anything that is inside a wormhole and in a Ship Maintence Array is no longer 'owned' by me until its back inside a station somewhere.

At the higher scale of wormholes (C4 and above) you'll need a corp to tackle some of the sites, it is possible to solo C4 sites but the length of time it takes probably doesn't make it all too viable unless you are time rich and have near perfect skills. This was the biggest thing I personally had to overcome when I first moved into a hole it was finding something to do while there were very few of us online to shoot at things. Its probably why I took up Planetary Interaction as a way to give me something to do - it may not be the most thrilling thing you'll ever do in EVE but it at least provides an almost passive income stream.

When I first moved into a wormhole I'd done nothing but PVE and mission running (not on this toon) so there are a few things to get used to. Namely as others have mentioned there is no local so you have no idea if you're alone in the hole or there is a nice T3 blob waiting to take you out - to that end you don't talk in local and give away your element of surprise. You'll have to get used to navigating by bookmarks and naming them appropriately. Its no good simply having something labeled as 'wormhole' if you have no idea where it leads to. Learn to use D-Scan it will save your life and if you see the dreaded combat probes on scan take the appropriate action - which is evicting the interloper from your hole.

I wish that I had gotten into wormhole space a lot sooner in my EVE career as you'll learn a lot about EVE and how it works - I knew nothing about fleet logistics and small fleet operations when I went into a C2 for the first time and came out a lot wiser with more career paths at my fingertips than I ever imagined there could be in EVE.

Basically I'd say jump in and let the fun commence.

You scan them down with probes

You jump in and look around

You probe it till it screams with pleasure

You become an item

You cosset it, caress it, and treat it well

You buy it towers and arrays, and shower it with dreads, carriers and sparkly PvP ships

You blow the crap out of anyone who comes calling with malice aforethought

Well that's WHAT you do. How you do it ? Well that's a little trickier
