How do I use an Ishtar in losec 5/10 DED complexes?

I currently use a HM or HAM Tengu, I don't how how Ishtars can tank these complexes if not traveling out at long ranges to get away from the incoming DPS. Or how dropping sentries would be viable when things want to get close range. Anyone have videos or advice on how to use the Ishtar effectively? Can I use a MWD inside the complex if it has acceleration gates? I have not explored the PvE side of EVE too much or fit ships for PvE Oops

First off: What 5/10 complexes? The ishtar shines when used for its base resists, which means fighting guristas or serpentis. I use a passive shield fit against these, which gimps the DPS, but i have a second account with a tengu to compensate for this. An active shield fit is an option as well. I know a lot of ratters/ano runners use a 100 mn afterburner fit. Might work here as well.

Against angels and Sansha it gets harder. The base resists are not good, and i personally switch to the active armor tank here. Blood Raider is even trickier because of neuting ships and batteries.

If you already use a tengu i wouldn't bother with the ishtar. The tengu only lacks slightly in tank (and only when fighting guristas and serpentis) and does much better dps. I can run the 8/10 guristas plex solo in a t2 fit tengu, and i do that twice as fast as in a comparable ishtar fit.

Shield buffer pvp fit Ishtar can run 5/10s pretty easily. Basically you want to kite off and drop sentries. Once the rats get in close, scoop sentries and MWD away and redeploy. The final rooms in 5/10s usually have stasis web towers that need to be killed ASAP. Google the complex name for a breakdown of the rats etc etc.

Thats the fit I use. It's highly recomended to carry a mobile depot with spare sets of sentry drones, Improved Cloak (in case you get camped) and specific hardeners (EM Hardeners for Bloodraiders and Sansha for example). Ishtar is best vs Gurista and Serpentis rats but can also handle Angel sites without much hassle. Blood Raider and Sansha sites require a bit more care. Swap out the point and web for Invul + EM hardener or double EM hardener.

Drones to use:
Bouncers vs Angels
Curators vs Blood and Sansha
Wardens vs Serpentis and Guristas
Gardes are good vs Serps + Gurista but have short range and make range tanking the rats harder.

Best part of PVEing in a PVP fit is killing people who try and gank you Smile

I was wondering what the point was for haha. I am mostly against Sansha / Angel stuff. But I travel often. Thanks for the fit and the insight. Anything else from anyone is appreciated. :)

confirming good advice in the two replies above. the only thing i would add is to not get overconfident. just because you have a pvp fit does not mean a cloaky loki will not eat you up.

I should buy an Ishtar.

CLoki might think twice about fighting an Ishtar. It's very expensive to get a loki a decent tank/EHP. And ishtars dole out some heinous DPS. That Subsystem gimps your combat ability to the point where and ishtar is dealing 3 times your DPS in some cases.

The instant someone starts to mess with my in a PVE ishtar, i unload hell on them.
