Out of curiosity and not poking TOO hard at them, but why would you guys go to groups like HK when they can already field fleets larger than most other people, often more than some sorts have members? Is it to stay in C5/C6 space and there are fewer others doing that, and going lower is not an option? Is it safety in numbers? Something else?

Serious poast:
High class systems have a certain active pilot "sweet spot" in one or more timezones.
Too few active pilots and you either cannot take fights, or (happened to us a LOT) get blobbed as Civil mentioned.
Too many active pilots and people roll their chains at the first site of you.

In either case, all that results long-term is angry forum threads on who's a cowardly group or who blobbed who and e-bushido, etc. No fun for anyone, especially since EveO forum software eats 1/5th of every reply attempted.

So people have been gravitating to the larger groups because each are more likely to have that "sweet spot" of activity in specific timezones. Whether that means there are enough scouts to quickly scan out a chain, or enough pilots to form a response fleet to something discovered or simply enough pilots to replace PvP losses relatively quickly (shooting brackets is far preferable to shooting crosses after all). At least that is, imo, partly why.

And then there's the other subjective aspect of 'shared cultures' and people like grouping with others of like-mind.

I'm right behind you

all you want to do is play the game in WH's it becomes attractive to join these groups as they get the fights you like being in, they have the organization in place, they offer stability and they have proven FC's. In the end its not always about safe and more about wanting to do WH's without the need to bang your head against a wall to play the game.

*cough*

See the difference is there is players like Keith here that do join groups for safety, he left us to join HK right when BU decided we were target number one and since he really loves to PVE he could no longer do that with us safely...

To harsh? No fucks given.

Can confirm this is exactly what happened, PVE is my #1 goal and therefore hard knocks was the obvious choice.

How does one go almost 7 months in such active PVP corps as Sky Fighters, Rolled Out, and Hard Knocks and not lose a single ship? I smell risk averse, but maybe you are just that good.
