Is CCP artificially increasing the PLEX price? (don't lock)

High plex price means more people wil buy with euro or dollar instead of isk.

The way I see it, is that CCP essentially has the same tools available as in a real economy. A PLEX is analoguos to a bond. The central bank (CCP) can use quantitative easing (buying up PLEX) to reduce the supply of PLEX on the market which will increase the prices. Now the bond (PLEX) will be worth more (in terms of ISK) which will increase the value of PLEX when measured in another currency (i.e. Euro or Dollar). Hence, the demand for Euro/Dollar-purchased PLEX will increase which will enhance CCP's profits.

If people aren't buying it for isk, then it's not selling for isk, which means it won't be worth buying for real money either.

Just as a coffee table question I would say no.

They really don't need to do this. Prices are high because people aren't buying them in the store. The reasons are a little more than I want to go in to but it really is a matter of EVE not being a pay to win game and until there is a power shift people have nothing to do but make ISK in the game.

If CCP was a mufti-national corporation I would totally agree with that.

But they're not. They're a small game company with a niche game that they are desperately trying to keep afloat. They're not going to do something as blatant as manipulating PLEX. They couldn't afford the hit if they got caught.

My also have something to do with the fact that almost every new player you speak to says "I heard you can play EVE for free" and "how can I play for free in my first 3 months" .

Agreed. You could say there is a pay to win scheme in EVE but there isn't even demand for pat to play and the pay to win scenario, even at 800 mill a plex is in the hundreds of thousands US to be effective.

People have realized it's cheaper to sub with real money and to instead use the isk they grind to buy PLEX! Which they'll sell for more isk next month! isk > RL money!

Often I see PLEXes and buying orders posted around Jita for prices substantially below or above market cost - up to 500 of them at once sometimes - and it look like it's being done to stabilize prices. PLEXes are being posted in multiple systems with 10-15 seconds intervals between contracts - like it's done by the same person with multiple opened clients.

It's strange.
