This is a very simple, and fun thing to add in-game that I think would add a level of interesting gameplay. Simply put, things like radioactive commodities, and some types of gas products and PI materials should be volatile enough that when the ship containing them gets down into hull, they ship has an increasing chance to explode violently in a big AoE explosion that engulfs the ship and those around it. Here in the states we have an issue where oil tanker cars on trains that haven't had their safety updated in somewhere around half a century in some cases have a tendency to explode violently in these massive infernos that end up engulfing entire parts of some towns. Now, if you're carrying potentially fissile nuclear material or volatile gas or planet products, I think the same thing should happen.

Also, if you're carrying fireworks in your cargo and you're killed, they should all go off at once. That should make for some spectacular fleet battles...

Yes, let me just fill a freighter full of explosives and let someone detonate me at Jita undock. And again. And again. And again.

The tears would blot out the scam spam in local.

EXACTLY! And if people cry foul, everyone can just say, "Well, you should have seen the freighter on the undock being shot at, bro. Your loss for not keeping on top of things!"

But seriously; there would be something where it doesn't happen in freighters or DST or something to prevent abuse, and the explosions wouldn't be enough to kill anything with a bigger tank than a cruiser.

If you need to start adding exceptions to entire ship classes on what would seem to be a universal law, it's a bad idea.

I consider this to be a goodhearted troll post Roll

I guess there is no need to talk the exploitability and the drift into the mine field discussion and other spam and flame that will soon follow in this thread.
Every ship destruction aoe damage suggestion has been turned down for good reasons, time to end this before it becomes another flame and rage thread.

Thank you. I was inspired by 4th of July festivities and a Michael Bay movie marathon.

Well if it's Michal Bay inspired the ships shouldn't even need to be shot. Someone just needs to look in their general direction with a camera.

It would be interesting to add the loot spew mechanic to player ships when they are destroyed.

Actually a creative idea, say your carrying 1 million rounds of explosive ammo, each round has the ability to do 260hp damage, cumulative damage should be enough to take a small moon/spacestation (Insert Star Wars joke here).

Yeah I think 260megatons would make for a nice 4th of July display on the Jita undock, and gives all the RP ''Some men just want to watch the world burn Mr. Wayne'' guys hope in a happy ending.

Things that keep me up at night;  Why do we use a voice communication device to send telegraphs? Moore's Law should state, Once you have paid off the last PC upgrade you will need another.

The tears on Jita undock are a strong argument for doing this, not against.

Jita should see events that break it up as the go to trade hub unless the residents can secure it. This really should not be in an npc protected area.

Besides, I would make it a point to run untanked industrials packed to the gills with the most ludicrously explosive stuff available into lowsec three times a week with a buddy to explode me if the campers don't.

That got me thinking...

There are two motivators when change is introduced in this game: Profit, and willpower. The coming industrial rework in Crius looks nice on paper and it seems like it will work together pretty well. But...it is more than likely that people won't want to pick up and leave simply out of convenience. So having something like this introduced, even temporarily, is a good "motivator". Obviously, you wouldn't get any killmails for the people you blow up around you, but the potential for a minefield would cause people enough concern to actually move their valuables out.

See, in a place as busy as jita, you'd have people working diligently to ensure that this kind of thing doesn't happen, and shoot the people shooting the giant bomb hauler. It would be an absolutely wonderful mess...
