Is it fun?

If it is fun that motivates you to play EVE Online, what is fun?
(What do you define as fun, and what do you describe as the fun activity in EVE Online?)

What motivates the fun, and what fun motivates you?

If other reasons or motivation than fun, please state what is the motivation .

Other motivation or uses (practical use) maybe use for work or learning.

To practice ideas or other life skills...

Memory skills, other skills.
Socialize, Friends?
Business, IT, Arts, Music, Writing.
Science, Astronomy related, Aeronautics, Robotics.
Design, analysis, architecture.

I have a few motivations for my EVE time. One, I'm a pretty intensely competitive person, and EVE is a great place for that. I also like finding unconventional solutions to problems, and...well, you get some of that in EVE too!

Mostly though, I work at a job that can be really emotionally taxing. I end up bottling up a lot of "toxic" emotions. EVE lets me vent those in acceptable ways.

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

I play to hit on all the hot chicks.

"Hey Baby, check out my hardener, oh yeah.........it's officer."

or:

"Hey there, watcha got in your low slot?"

What can i say, i'm smooth.

I live for the applause.

EvE allows me to be in contact with other people plain and simple, sure these social sites can do the same. But they dig into your privacy. In EvE I am able to do what I wish and not be followed around by a group of people or eyes. The other is privacy I can say and do what I wish here that is the way I like it. Another is, EvE lets me thrash about and have others worry about me. The me in front of the computer. Lastly though EvE is relaxing and I get to go Pew Pew and qq and drill rock etc. in a spaceship that can explode.

A mostly player run computer game that is essentially a free for all, the same reason I never finished playing Morrowind, just ran around killin stuff :) a virtual wild west in short why I play.

Once you realize what a joke everything is, being the comedian is the only thing that makes sense.

Lately (~8 months) - nothing. Before that - incursions - which are the most fun group PvE activity I've seen in MMOs. Before that - a hope to see proper avatar gameplay.

I used to play due to the ambiance and the lore. But then CCP decided to nerf those aspects out of the game. Now-a-days, I mostly idle and whenever a whim hits me, it is but short lived and I return to idling.

Helping people understand that this is an MMO and its a lot more fun if we play with each other motivates me to keep playing.

It's fun chatting with my fellow forum people and well worth the $15 a month for my posting privilege.

Oh...yeah...and occasionally logging to that space mini game when the forum is having a slow day.

First thing, I'd like to acknowledge the op for starting a thread that hasn't made me confused and inexplicably angry, good job, I approve of this.

As for the attraction to eve.
From the outside, it's hard , really ******* hard and I like a challenging game, eve deliberately excludes the stupid and weak willied.
I get that some of the vets are so used to the way mechanics work in eve that ye don't see it any more
but learning how to "eve" is far from easy an experience. this is a good thing.

Its unique in its player driven economy which i like (I'm crap at this aspect of the game but i find it fascinating) .
The single shard nature and the fact that i "could" **** with literally anyone else that plays this game.

Its harsh arse nature ,
scams are funny lads, really ******* funny, I'm not interested in running one but I rather enjoy that we have the freedom to do so.
if you fall for an obvious one you deserve to be laughed at (to a point).
I'm only now(a year and a half in) getting into PeeeeVP but the Constant threat of it in game is one of eve's defining features, that gives this place an edgy feel that I instantly fell in love with.

love science fiction, always have.

The community here is fantastic.
Hard to click with but nothing worthwhile comes easy.

Ooo, nearly forgot, the devs are excellent here btw , you dont normally see the level of community interaction from a large studio as we get from ccp.
