This.

My first frig fight was so fast that i hardly had time to realize what i did wrong. His Daredevil against my Hookbill. It was literally a 25 second fight. (Most of which was me sitting there with my mouth hanging open at the speed of the fight.) I did not understand transversal at the time.

I ended up leaving frigates behind and learned in Battlecruisers. It gave me time to get over the 'shakes' and learn during the fight as the Drake had such a huge tank. So my first kill was my Drake against a Hurricane somewhere in low-sec. I think it was around 3-4 weeks after i started actively engaging in PvP that i got that first solo kill.

I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay.
Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!

The Rules:
4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.

26. Off-topic posting is prohibited.

Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued.

So I have almost 7M SP, and I've lost about 50 ships trying to PVP, and have yet to get one solo kill. I'm honestly ready to quit. How many ships did you lose before you started getting kills? The majority of fights I end up in I can't even seem to get any good damage to the other ship, which is even more frustrating.

fly up to VFK and kill a damn goon, they suck at the game, thats how I did it...

...but looking at your KB you seem to have consistent problems:

1: You engage faction frigates in T1 frigates which will usually end in failure (To give perspective, the faction Daredevil gets a 200% damage bonus for its hybrids = MASSIVE DAMAGE!).

2: You engage ships that are much bigger than you. (That one where you got killed by a hurricane + a few others)

3: You engage a group of people, or you aren't fully aware of your surroundings and have a gang drop on you as the 'bait ship' is holding you.

I use a dessie in lowsec and look for lone T1 frigs in relatively empty systems (I may bump this up to attacking faction frigs once I get a feel for my ship).

Don't give up, test multiple ships and setups until you get one that works for you then buy a lot of them and keep learning, if you keep using the same ship, you will learn it's limits and abilities (And hopefully cut down on those loss mails Big smile). (SISI is also good to a degree for testing these fits if you can find someone to fight fairly with).

Killing a cruiser with a frigate is actually pretty easy. Do a spiral approach, hold a tight orbit, and stay under their guns. My first and only solo kill was Frigate vs Cruiser. He got on shot on me on my initial approach, but once I scrambled him, and entered that tight orbit he missed every shot. Took almost a hundred rounds, but I got the kill. You just have to be sure to kill their drones before the ship. Drones and missiles are worst enemy in those kind of engagements.

Do you smell that? ::sniff:: Ahhhh.... progress!! \o/

Six years in and never. But I'm not trying. (I'm also not counting abandoned ships, insurance fraud, bounty clearing and testing. I got over a dozen solo "kills" doing those activities.)

2 and a half years in sounds about right for my first true 1 vs 1 kill. Once I really started trying it took me at least 5 losses before my first victory. Best feeling in the world. Took me a full 2 minutes to calm down again and realize I should actually finish the plex.

First frigate 1 vs 1 fight was me panicking and smashing random buttons after realizing I was being attacked 3 seconds into the fight and not breaking any of the enemy shielding.

Second time I was kited to death. Took ages by comparison but could not even lay a finger on the enemy.

Eve is harsh, but keep at it, worth it in the end. I am still incredibly bad at it but having fun every time I try.

I was a couple weeks old. I was doing some exploration in a lowsec system with my Vexor. Guy in a rifter warps in and I didn't warp out fast enough, and I find myself tackled. So, I figure I'm screwed but I should at least fight back, so I pull out my drones and start attacking him. It ended up working because he blew up before I did. I could have gotten his pod too because he sat there for awhile, but I guess I was a little too surprised that I won. It was my first ever PvP experience and I came out on top.

Month or two later, I was in a lowsec system with my Enyo. This time I was looking for a fight. Guy shows up in a rifter, he engages, we fight, and I won. I'm in an assault frig vs his T1 so I know it's hardly anything to brag about but it was still exciting.

When I returned to Eve with the Odyssey expansion I went out to lowsec in my pilgrim, scanned down a relic site and cloaked near a can, wrecking the two scan frigates that within the course of a few hours came to try and hack it. Had been playing Eve for about a year, one year before that.

For those who even consider that kind of thing "solo pvp" anyway.

Didn't bring an analyzer or cargo scanner so don't know what was in that can they both died for. It haunts me sometimes.

2 months, Kestrel offered to duel my Comet. I was so convinced he was going to dock and get his T3 that I warped away and forgot my drones.

One of the reasons so many people don't do solo fights is because of the learning curve in solo pvp. First and foremost, your skills will matter. Most solo pvp pilots have also focused solo pvp skills maxed out, and depending on what ships they fly, can resort to the use of drugs as well, with other words, if you got mediocre skills, chances are you most likely stand no chance vs a more experienced pvp player.

So step 1. Those main skills, and weapon skills need to be all max lvl, I went as far as having specialization skills also lvl 5. Thermodynamics lvl 5 is a must too, because you basically overheat your weapons in solo combat the most.

Step 2. Basically, here is where you just go and find fights. Chances are you will die horribly the first few times, but you will learn this way. You will get to know people's tactics, what their ships can do, what the limit of your ship is, and you will learn that way.

But it is normal to lose a lot of ships initially, the solo pvp players know their thing, so don't let this bring you down. A good advice is getting in touch with the guys that kill you initially, ask them about their fits, what they recommend, etc. Again, solo pvp is definitely not the easiest thing in eve to learn, but once you learned it, you will become addicted to this game because for some reason I never forget the 1 on 1 encounters or 1 v 4 encounters that I won, and this is one of the things that also keeps me playing.

One more thing. This is an expensive part of eve, so be ready to have a good source of isk income if you are getting into solo pvp, because you will lose more ships, and also, you will need to learn to do multitasking, such as checking people's killboards to see if they are solo fighters as well or if they are gank bait, and you need to check on some ship's what your opponent most likely is flying (example brawl comet or kite), with other words, in solo pvp you are constantly doing your intel/home work, because this increases your survivability the most. The second you start slacking with your homework/intel is when you start losing more ships.

you should be able to get a solo kill a few hours after rolling a new toon with some very basic skills plugged in. I think my record on an alt is about 44 minutes. eve is easy.
