How long before your first solo kill?

So I have almost 7M SP, and I've lost about 50 ships trying to PVP, and have yet to get one solo kill. I'm honestly ready to quit. How many ships did you lose before you started getting kills? The majority of fights I end up in I can't even seem to get any good damage to the other ship, which is even more frustrating.

Why try to blow up ships when you can help ships?
It is infinitely less rude.

If you mean duels, they are almost never fair, don't do it.

If you are roaming losec you are picking the wrong targets.

Where are you trying to get solo kills? If it's in FW space you might be solo but you'll usually be fighting against them, their boosts, their Falcon alt and their Fedo.

Also what ships are you using and with what fits? (on my phone and can't check the killboards).

Half the fight is knowing which ships to engage whith your current ship and the other half is a mixture of piloting skill and knowledge (actual skill, not SP) mixed with whether they have back up or not and what skills you have trained (eg a pilot with 90% mining SP isn't going to do well against a pilot that has pure combat SP, there are exeptions though).

Don't quit, stick at it. You will eventually get your first truly solo kill, and it feels pretty good.

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Yeah, the famous EVE Online learning curve is about to make another victim.

Don't give up, that graphic is outdated.

I got my first solo kill by bringing my target to a trap.Pirate

My first solo kill was flying my drones into some poor schmuck's smart bomb range in high sec. I have no idea why he thought ratting with a smart bomb was a good idea, but I bet he never did it again.

That was within a few months of me starting my first character.

it took me one year in the game to get my first 'real' solo kill.. was in a cane and got caught by a Arazu and Loki.. managed to kill the Arazu and get away was very excite..

But made a alt in recent months (just because I never did the new player experience) and got my first solo kill in that within the first week.. (nuet tristans require very few SP)

Contact me. I will help you to solo kill. I've been solo a long ass time, and while I'm hardly some amazing PvPer, I get fights and have fun.

true solo kill? like 3-4 months, before that, only in groups.

join RvB, they have low-skill group frigate fights going every day, you will get solo kills there by nibbling on the edges of the fleet fights and picking off stragglers. their frigates are also free - or as good as free.

Keep at it, you will eventually win.

EDIT - remember to keep your fits simple. scram, web (optional), mwd, guns, ancillary tank, cap injector, damage control. thats it. use tankier frigatres with +resists, they take more punishment. Use blasters they do top dps. If piloting light ship, dont go after tankier frigates.

Took me 3 months of loosing ships before I popped a cyno on a lowsec station in a moa...

...but looking at your KB you seem to have consistent problems:

1: You engage faction frigates in T1 frigates which will usually end in failure (To give perspective, the faction Daredevil gets a 200% damage bonus for its hybrids = MASSIVE DAMAGE!).

2: You engage ships that are much bigger than you. (That one where you got killed by a hurricane + a few others)

3: You engage a group of people, or you aren't fully aware of your surroundings and have a gang drop on you as the 'bait ship' is holding you.

I use a dessie in lowsec and look for lone T1 frigs in relatively empty systems (I may bump this up to attacking faction frigs once I get a feel for my ship).

Don't give up, test multiple ships and setups until you get one that works for you then buy a lot of them and keep learning, if you keep using the same ship, you will learn it's limits and abilities (And hopefully cut down on those loss mails Big smile). (SISI is also good to a degree for testing these fits if you can find someone to fight fairly with).

How about never, and have no wish to?

Recently, I came upon a few months old char mining in a retty in 0.2 space. I could have easily reshipped to fit a scram to my cloaked T3. But no, I decloaked beside the guy, said hi, told him I was no threat, and went about ratting in system. Just the 2 of us in system. We continued chatting, and he eventually called out for some help with some rats attacking his mining boat he could not handle. I zipped over, got rid of them for him.

That gave me far more gratification than ganking the guy. (BTW, look at my killboard's ancient history, there are 0.0 and wh kills on it, of all kinds, so I do know a thing or two about shooting others in the game)

A few days later, we had some clown in a Hurricane scan him down while having an alt sit on the other side of the gate (dead end system). I gave the miner a safe spot I had, but it was a small system and could not keep him safe, while I checked out his way out of system (remember the alt?)

It did not take long before the Cane had him found and pointed. Nothing I could do for him in my outgunned exploration T3. He was extorted for cash, with a promise that the Cane pilot would not kill him for the rest of the day.

That miner has not been back to that system in some time, and rarely logs on now (I have him on WL).

Killing anyone you can is one extremely simple and childish way to play this game. There are myriad other ways,

Bookmark relic site. Wait. Warp when the rabbit is in. Its inevitable that one will take too long and let you kill their poor unarmed thieving defenseless self.

In general to get solo kills, you need to either research or learn by remembering which ship types and likely fits will kill yours and you need to seek engagements that are suitable and you need to pass up engagements that are not.

You got 50 engagements because you aren't choosing. Its a lot harder to find agreeable encounters, but not being dead and reshipping helps a lot.

I can't speak for everyone, but making a value judgment of the necessity to do anything in a game (killing, or not killing, mining, or not mining) is petty.

I'd like you to be able to do whatever you want to, while I'm able to do whatever I want to.. and if these come to be at odds (ie: player vs. player) then so be it.

If I didn't "discourage" other people by helpfully assisting their hull hitpoints to run out with drones and guns, then I'd never get any of the good content in my system. 3 out of the 4 types of space, and the vast majority of systems in the game are designed with that in mind, and that's why the best content starts out from or is in a public signature of some description.
