Hi all,
Does the projectile ammunition used by Minmatar ships have a metallic case similar to the majority of Real-Life ammunition or is it case-less? Because that's never been explained.

To my knowledge, the only piece of fiction we have describing a projectile turret's operation comes from "Recursion", a guest-fiction piece by CCP Headfirst on the Inner Sanctum of Ninveah blog. The description is of the operation of an autocannon of unclear caliber:

Quote:
The cylinder had barely cleared of its previous occupant and was still clouded with scalding hot residual smoke when the breech shot back open. A belt of reinforced, flexible carbon fibers pulled from left to right, yanking the hollow shell out of the way so that the next round could slam into place, where it was immediately secured by a locking collar at the front and back of the chamber.

A fraction of a heartbeat after it had settled in, though, the back of the cylinder segmented near its center, sending a solid piston of polished steel slamming into the back of the round. The force of the impact, along with the crackling spark it caused upon touching the bullet, ignited the explosive gel contained inside. As each molecule of the heavy composite paste overheated, the atoms within shed their higher level electrons, which in turn heated up their neighboring particles, and so on in a chain reaction.

So:
- Shells appear to be cased, and connected to one another via a flexible belt.
- Shells are triggered by a combination piston-impact and electrical current.
- Propellant material is a gel or paste.

It has never been explained why multiple gun sizes can use the same shell item; my personal favorite explanation is that the numbers we are given (425mm, 1400mm, etc) do not actually refer to the breach diameter, but rather some other measurement of the weapon.

Well, if this screenshot I took from the Minmatar CQ is canon (heh, get it?), then yes they seem to be like very large bullets. Pictured what seems to be a repurposed 425mm round: http://i.imgur.com/M1Y8umW.jpg

I cannot confirm anything, but for the sake of Minmatar principles, there just have to be casings.

Using tablet, typoes are common and I'm not going to fix them all.
