Who do some people have the need to to post the most private details of their personal life on public forums?

I notice this a lot especially in north American culture - every little detail, first thing a lot of people do is post on all the forums about it. Never mind that a lot of people dont care, or dont want to know, or it might bring up unwanted memories.

What happened to notions of privacy and friends? If you got married, sick, cured, divorced, whatever, tell your friends about it by all means - but why tell strangers? And why do it on a computer game forum of all places?

I mean there are mailing lists, tools to manage friends, corp, alliance mails, regular emails, facebook - use those, its not that hard.

For example - the post here about someone having cancer surgery. Thats great, best of luck to that guy, but do I want to know about it? My grandma has cancer, my friend has cancer, and my best friends mom had breast cancer surgery recently - I do NOT want to be reminded about 3 people I know that might still die. And I do not go asking for support of random people on a computer game forum either - its my details, I do not go burdening others with them.

This is a forum for a computer game, not a board for cancer support. This is best done on facebook or some such.

It may sound harsh, but public means respecting other's right NOT to be informed of personal details of certain nature. Im not being hateful or anything, I just dont want to know about certain things. And there is a reason why certain topics are off limits in the EULA.

Please keep topics here in general direction of EVE.

So, because you dont want to be reminded of unhappy thoughts, people who are going through a life threatening illness cannot seek the support of this fine community we have built?

**** off.

So this morning I was taking this MASSIVE bowel movement (Pad Thai is delicious, but boy do you pay for it). Now I know what you are thinking, what does this have to do with EVE?

Well, when I finished, I got up, turned a round and realized that the thing i just dropped looked just like this.

But why do it in general discussion? There are out-of-pod forums for real life things, for example. Keep it to appropriate channels so that others who wish NOT to be informed, can avoid reading unnecessary posts. To do it in General Discussions is... not right.

You must have missed his edit. If so, you should probably go read it first, and then **** off.

I don't feel either way about postings about players having "medical issues".

The problem, especially when they are asking for monetary support, is whether the posting story is legitimate. I don't believe the half of them.

Then report it and let the mods handle it instead of shitting up the forums with yet another useless thread.

The OP did remark in the thread you're referring to that it'll probably get moved to OOPE. People tend to post here first just because it's quiet in there knowing it'll get moved.

I can see where you're coming from, although attacking the person in question is a bit inappropriate. I wouldn't start threads in GD discussing personal issues either, tbh I wouldn't even do it on corp or alliance forums, but I've seen other people do so.

Everyone handles stuff like this in different ways and if they need a bit of support people are usually willing to give it. If you're unwilling to because you have issues of your own, that's understandable, but there's no point being so intolerant about it. Some of these posts actually help other people in similar situations if they are struggling dealing with it and don't have that many people to talk to. It doesn't do any harm to remind folk that there are real people behind the players from time-to-time.

I agree with you sir, when I wrote about my victory over cancer last year, did I whine, did I cry omigawd I'm gonna die, did I beg for money for fully paid services I recieved?? The answer is a BIG RESOUNDING NO!! Did I make new friends and gained support while I was dealing with the situation at hand?? A BIG YES!!

@LS, OP I think you need to sit back and realize and see that even if we are cold hearted in space on the outside, it's in the heart and soul of all of us that REALLY TRULY CARES!!

Because for some, eve is there outlet.

You make friends, weather in your corp, or through your various associations, that sometimes a forum post gets the word around faster, or can reach long term friends.

Some people just want the support of others, lots of people go through things irl while playing eve, if you have cancer, go though a divorce, you sometimes want support and help to get through it, if eve is your facebook and all your friends are here, then you would post hoping maybe someone who went throught the thing you are can reach out and give you some type of support.

Humans need other humans, everyone does, its the nature of how we work. When humans bond, be it via a game or at work, they want the support, assistance, and friendship of the community they love and are apart of. Be it a video game forum, somthingaweful, yahoo games, facebook, whatever. Some things don't need to be aired, like dirty laundry cause no one needs to see that.

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!
