Capital Industrial Ships bonuses (per skill level):

5% reduction in fuel consumption for Industrial Core <--Used
10% bonus to Mining Foreman Links effectiveness when using Industrial Core <---Used
50% bonus to Capital Remote Shield Booster range <--Unused
20% bonus to Drone hitpoints and damage <-- Unused

Role Bonus:

900% bonus to Survey Scanner range <-- Unused and stupid
200% bonus to Cargo Scanners range<-- Unused and even more stupid unless you are planing to gank in Jita with Rorqual
• Can fit Industrial Core
• Can fit Clone Vat Bay
• Can use 3 Warfare Link modules simultaneously <--- This 3 are used

If CCP makes POS Mining boost modules they can remove Rorqual from eve, it is THE most unused ship in eve, not to mention wasted skill time for skills that will never be in use. It is shame that you see super caps on grid in fights and you cant see Rorqual even in belt.

Few ideas:
Let T3 ships can be stored in maintenance bay so mining fleet can defend themself in case of hotdrops
Mining boost more efective on grid than from POS
Rorqual to be builded in hisec but stuck there or jump into losec/0.0, so once you build it, you can use it there or cyno in losec and move as todays Rorq.
New mining + siege bonuses with mining foreman mindlink ORE edition, to boost mining and siege
To be alowed in hisec but not to dock, so you must keep it at POS or have babysitting alt

These are only some ideas, please guys post them more,

Pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't survey scanning be useful for not depleting valuable ore roids.. for directing linked and fleeted miners?

I agree, the cargo scanner makes little sense, but maybe it helps the foreman gauge how topped up his fleet is.

Not sure I like the idea of a ship that can help deplete highsec ores faster than they already are with exhumers with boosts.

Rorqual is way too strong for hi-sec.

When was the last time you saw a rorqual actually sitting in a belt, because survey scanners only work when sitting inside the belt and the same for cargo scanners, having that thing sitting in a belt unaligned or even worse, in siege, is asking for someone to come and rip it apart :P

If your mining op is hotdropped, I seriously doubt a few t3s in your ship maintenance bay is going to do any difference.

...And the rorqual shouldn't be used in highsec. Go to lowsec or nullsec if you want to play with the cool things.

Rorqual needs to keep the Industry core, and have an incentive to bring it on-grid with the asteroid belt.

Also, this thread is about to go places.

Places where no thread has gone before.

To explore strange new subforums.

To seek out new threads and Tippia posts.

To boldly go, where no thread has gone before.

1. Ideas (terrible as yours are) belong in Features and Ideas (edit - damn missed that the link got posted already Cry)

2. Rorquals, as with all capitals, are not allowed in hisec for good reasons.

3. Just because you don't personally use some/all of the ship capabilities doesn't mean that others don't.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I've not yet been boosted by a Rorq, and I've always assumed it's the next step up from an Orca.. but after doing some reading about the ship, it does seem like a big risk taking the ship out with the rest of the mining fleet.

That said, would OP's suggestion of having T3 ship storage and more effective links on grid be enough to bring a Rorq on grid? I would think not..

I would argue that the Primae is more useless than the Rorqual, tbh.

The best thing about a properly skilled Rorq pilot that can fit for on grid is that you are only a week or two from having a really nice carrier pilot. And most will eventually jump into a carrier because sitting around boosting miners is just about the most boring thing you can imagine.

Funnily enough, I'm thinking about getting a Rorq. I've trained for it, after all, and my lazy cropmates can't be arsed to grind the standings for jump clones.

Still… :effort:

Prolly gonna be moved but posting anyway.

The rorq would be good for a few new things, but one of which would require a massive change.

I think the rorq should either 1) be a mobile reactor unit. So instead of compressing ore, it will react gas, small batches, but that would give it a reason to sit somewhere and maybe be ganked.

2) It should become the capitol mining ship lots of people want. It will mine way slower then the barges, but can pull in a big chuck of stuff.

or 3) and this would need a massive change, as ring mining doesntl seem to be coming, remove moon harvesting arrays from pos' and make it so the rorq has to manually mine the moon goo.

Just some ideas

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

True and true. The boosts from a Rorqual are sweet indeed if the pilot has maxxed out his skills. However since you don't need to be on grid to share those boosts but just undocked in the system somewhere with the modules and the indy core running, what everyone does is park it at a POS and go afk. That's why you'll never ever see one at a belt (unless the pilot is incredibly stupid). I've taken mine to belts before but never with someone I didn't trust (even blues) in local. I did that to use the tractor beam to tractor in mining cans from 150+km away but now since freighters can go to belts and pick up cans there's not much point. Pretty much anyone with a noctis and a freighter can do that job more efficiently.

Boosts and ore compression are the only thing the rorqual is good for (besides being a poor man's jump freighter). Ore compression will soon be done by tower modules. If towers can give mining boosts too then that ship really will be obsolete.

Can't they use the jump clone service people that let you use their corp standings... for free

Probably. That requires futzing around with joining other corps, though. I'm guessing the :effort: goes both ways. P
