New kid on the block - where do I go to gank carebears?

Hello there C&P. I'm new to this whole space violence thing, so forgive my ignorance. A few years back I dumpstered/sold my old main being fed up with the mission and industry grinding wheel I'd put myself on. With a nice break behind me I'm ready to start fresh and on a completely different path. Namely, I'd like to go out and hunt the bling-riding mission pimps and their monstrous faction and deadspace equipped iskmobiles.

So, that said, with whom do I inquire about some training and/or assistance in hunting these dread beasts? I've noticed a good deal of momentum behind the freighter and miner ganking business, but nothing much on the radar about mission ganking.

Help a newly reformed brother out?

Practice probing down the bears first. Also, learn the missions somewhat (it's good to be able to look at the scenery and know 'ok, this is a 3 pocket mission' or 'single room mission and the bear is done').

Then you can try to get aggression from the bear in a ship with a warp scrambler that looks harmless (I recommend the Prospect if you have backup, the Ishkur if you do not), and if they attack, return the favor and break their tank slowly with neutralizers. If they don't attack, keep them distracted while you get 4-5 Tornadoes (multiboxed or other players) in for the actual gank.

Make a plan as to whether you will offer ransoms or not, and whether you will honor them or not. I recommend offering, and honoring, ransoms, as a general approach.

First, thanks for the tips.

Will do. I know the mission quite well, unless they made significant changes in the last few years.

I'm not much of a multiboxer, what I'd really need would be a posse. I'm hoping at some point to get in a corp where the modus operandi is hunting said missionbears. So far as I remember, most of the really blinged mission runner were too wise for mere aggression baiting, I certainly knew about that stuff when I was a bear. I'd reckon that, from my experience, the best place to catch them would be on a gate when they head to a misssion one or more jumps out. Station undock too as most of them are too lazy for undocking bookmarks and will take ages to align their big bling birds.

Sounds like fun. I'll have to practice my ransoming. Currently working my skills up on a basic rifter and planning to haunt some of those newfangled planetary interaction things. Un-escorted haulers coming to pick up sticks in lowsec sound like a good time. Pirate

A couple of us did it for a while. It was an interesting math problem. There were several variables to work out. Once you get it down - fish in a barrel. The top of the page has our 2 week fact finding mission. Feel free to convo/mail/public channel us if you really want more details.

It's fun at first, then it gets profitable and finally it gets boring. The only folks I've seen good for the long haul are the code guys, but they are more role players than gankers in my book.

We're a wh corp, so we know how to probe. For this experiment we never dropped a single one.

If you truly want to see mission bear tears, hang out in any SOE level 4 mission hub (like, say , Lanngisi...) and watch as mad drunken Russians murder blinged out billion isk mission boats.

Funny. As. Hell.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

Ganking mission runners isn't hard to do.

You'll need to fit a decent PVP battlecruiser, I used the Hurricane pre-nerf with a buffer shield fit (for maximum DPS) and 2 medium neuts, but I'm sure there's something equivalent these days.

You'll also need an innocent looking Heron. You'll use this Heron to scan down their missions and start salvaging their wrecks. Do this for a while until you really start to drive the mission runner mad. Signs that you are succeeding include the mission runner warping out of the mission when you come in, and him locking you up (but not firing).

Eventually, steal something from him. There's about a 25% change he'll shoot back in my experience. As soon as he does, dock up and grab your PVP ship and come back to the mission.

A long point is crucial as well as a MWD (they've removed the restriction from many sites) so close range quickly. Neuts and high dps are needed to break their PVE tank, but you'll probably want to have a flight of ECM drones available.

At this point you've already won and he doesn't know it yet, and if you mess up it's your fault. However...

If he instead just abandons his wrecks, just keep looting and salvaging and follow him into the next mission, and the next mission, etc. You can wait for him to undock from station and use the direction he warps to get a head start on probing him down.

They all have their breaking point.

You can do this in L3 and L4 missions and there are benefits to each. L4 missioners have better drops but are a little smarter. L3 missioners are easier to trick but their drops aren't very juicy. Just remember to keep well clear of rookie systems because the enforcement of the rules is inconsistent the closer you get to them.

If you get really lucky, he will bring in his friends to save him. This is a good fight, and you should takle it. One of my proudest moments in hi sec was taking down a Raven, Harbinger, and Procurer that came to help a Myrm that I was shooting. I believe the exact words of the Raven pilot after I destroyed all their ships with 20% shields left were "What are you?!"Big smile

Happy hunting, hit me up with any questions. Some stuff has probably changed since I did this but surely there's something valuable here.

You want to jump right into it? Fly around in a T1 Destroyer and pod everyone. If you have trouble locating pods, I recommend a major trade hub like Jita. Be sure to watch where the pods land and position yourself accordingly and catch the pods as they approach the docking radius.

This is the absolute quickest way into the space violence.

As much as I love indiscriminant podpopping (I've been known to fund st0ner smurf and his campaign of anti-capsule terror), it's not a good idea to illegally pop pods if you want to get into mission bear hunting.

Mission bears spend most of their time behind acceleration gates (and are most vulnerable there), and once they get behind two, they are completely unkillable for a character whose sec status is below negative 5.

Because if you are solid red (outlaw) as soon as you undock in a ship the faction police start hunting you.

You have about 10-30 seconds before they land on grid (depending on the sec status of the system), and while you can beat them/avoid them, it isn't easy, and since it takes time to get thru accell gates, all you are doing is giving the mission runner a ringside view as you try and duke it out with the faction police.

If you want to hunt blingy mission boats use the agent finder and locate remote L4 agents or stations with more than one, camp the station for a little while and passive scan everyone going in or out, use evepraisal to find out the worth of the goods, EFT to figure out the EHP and how much youll need to bring it down, and also what its weakest resist is so you can exploit that. then Track the target, execute the kill, and profit.

Last I heard, Feyd was recruiting. He can teach you how to kill missioners if anyone can.

(The text in question may be slightly exaggerated)

Because facpo will tackle you then kill you before you see the bear, if you need to do any slowboating gate to gate at all.

If the bear is in the first pocket of a mission it's possible to get them, but if they are in the second pocket, you cannot get them unless you can move to the acceleration gate and be in warp before you are scrammed by facpo. Most (not quite all) missions this isn't possible in any reasonable ganking fit. (You could try a Catalyst with electron or ion blasters, and a 1MN MWD, and you'd probably be able to travel through gates that are 10km apart, but even that is rough).

Finally once you get into the right pocket, the mark may be further than 10km from the warpin point, especially if they have an MJD fitted. Even if the mark is in the first pocket, for instance, a -10 Catalyst pilot can't harm them if they are 10km from warpin, and a -10 Vexor pilot will lose a good deal of damage to Facpo interference.

Being highsec legal is pretty much needed for highsec ganks inside deadspace.

Yeah, okay. Let's ignore the 10+ barges/exhumers in systems with beacons I manage to pass quite often. Sounds to me like you need to start looking in farther places.

If you want to gank some carebears there are lots of ways to do this.

HS: Get a high DPS brutix, or destroyer, whatever works for you. Get an unaffiliated alt for warp direct warp-ins (really useful for single room missions/sites) Once you start to get known in an area, people will start fleeing if they notice you in local, so try to hit a busy mission system if you are gonna do it without an alt.

LS: Solo; get something fast. I prefer things like T3s or HACs personally for lowsec.
Running with an alt: Assuming you dont have an alt at the moment, or at least a combat alt. Frigs with points and some ewar do well. Warp to alt at 0-20 to get secondary point.

I use a recon/t3 with covert cyno and blops drop carebears. I find it easier due to intel channels, if they have them. Are spotting two characters running around.

NS: Use dotlan maps. Look for systems with high NPC kills (4-5k+) Go there. Kill miners/ratter then GTFO. A -great- place to find miners is in the far reaches of nullsec. Not very often will you find miners within 10 jumps of a High sec entrance or an NPC nullsec entrance. They normally confide themselves 40+ jumps into nullsec in some backwater pocket where the intel channel will say someone is coming down a pipe.

Goonspace: Just.. go in and be ready to GTFO once the target is dead. Also be ready to lose your ship because they will chase you for 25+ jumps to avenge the poor Raven who died and cant afford a new one. While they spam your local calling you all kinds of funny stuff.
