Just because eve is harsh and unforgiving doesn't mean it can't also have a good community.

The EVE community has always amazed me with its capability to (usually) separate in-game animosity and real-world good times. Those guys who ganked your freighter? They're having a pub meetup and you're more than welcome to come and party.

No, this was one of the options, although it was primarily the AFK way to mine if you couldn't get in a proper exhumer. So, in the sense that he was actually paying attention long enough to notice the Hulk in the belt with him, he was doing it wrong.

Now adays, with CODE., you just don't do this.

call me crazy for it, but i still mine in a battlship sometimes, 8 t2 mining lasers, 3`upgrades in the low, and a bigger tank then any exhumer, also, 5 medium drones, works fine, you only got to stay within 2km from the orca and drop it in the orca at the end of every cycle, works better then retrievers/humers/barges.

but back to topic i geuss XD

Thought is dangerous; lack of thought, deadly!

A few months after I started playing EVE, I was carebear mining in Poinen I think and was taking some damage from rats. There was this small mining fleet minding it's own business taking care of the rats in the belt when I notice this hulk had locked me. Having no pvp experience, my heart went into high gear and I started to align to station when I noticed I'm taking no damage and my shields have been completely repaired. I didn't know about repper drones. I messaged the guy and thanked him for his kindness and after a bit of chatting I joined my first player corp.

A few weeks ago I was looking for and running data/relic sites in whatever nullsec systems I wondered into. I notice the only other person in the system strikes up a conversation in local. After a bit of chatting I realize he doesn't visit the forum often, if ever. He was a newer player so I can't blame him for that. The reason I say that is because he was complaining about the old loot spew mechanic. So, I explained the new mechanics to him. He did want to join me but when flying a Buzzard with no defense, I tend to fly alone. He was a friendly enough guy so I helped him out by giving him some pointers when exploring Big smile

I have more stories but two should be enough.

People: "You shouldn't burn bridges." Me: "I don't, I bomb them from orbit."

hey everyone,

before i started playing eve, i have been reading a lot about eve.
in general, eve is considerd one of the most harsh games out there.

i'm wondering if we can get a threadnaught going on, disproving eve as a very mean and harsh game.
Because even after encountering scammer number 9213 or awoxer number 4527, there are random acts of kindness in eve.

so please, post here your experience with random encounters of kindess, which can reach from an pirate honoring a ransom, to someone helping you out form day 1.

lets hope people read this, and that it can help people find their way in eve, and its harsh, but sometimes very pleasant community.

I provide random acts of kindness all the time. I show CEOs what they are doing wrong in recruitment, and miners that they should get a permit and follow the CODE, What is more kind then that?

When I had just started in EvE, I decided to do some courier contracts to earn some hard needed Isk. After a few days going back and forth in Domain and The Forge, I had made 20 million+
So I decided to do a 'bigger' contract. (Mind you, 20 mill was a lot of Isk for me then)
Amarr > Jita 600k Isk with a 18 mill collateral, not bad! Not bad till BOOOM that was.......

Only moments after failing the contract I got a covo from the contract issuer. I explained what happened, and apologised for not completing the contract.
Next thing I know he had set up a contract to me for a brand new (better)fitted Sigil and 18 million Isk. He also send me a rather long mail on fitting hauler ships, how to plan routes, how to avoid getting blown up and a lot of other good advice.
Needless to say I was a bit stunned at that time as he had just given me 18 million Isk and tanked hist lost cargo.

I have 'paid' him back several times by doing the same kind of thing, give new players a slight isk/goods boost and advice when they cross my path, as I have never forgotten I was helped the same way when new.

There was a guy as new as me who made a corp. anyways we were buds, but when my account was about to run out and I couldn't pay he got me a plex.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

I was doing pretty fine, running L4s in a faction-and-deadspace fit Tengu. I had just spent my last bit of ISK on a PLEX for gametime, so I was rushing the missions and got careless.

I managed to derp a Blood Raiders mission and lost my Tengu.

A guy pointed me towards the FC of TVP's fleet and he and the FC got me into a Drake and in fleet doing stuff. The fleet was awesome and sent me enough ISK to get into a Raven, and I managed to earn a Nightmare in no time. Without that guy I wouldn't be playing now.

There's this really nice lady I've met in Jita on sunday.

She's really nice, but shy.

I'll be really kind to her today. (:
I think she misses that a lot!
I'll make it feel real, I promise. ;)

I thought this belongs here,
because it's an act of kindness. (:

On the ransom side I remember catching a navy raven who had gone astray in low sec. Turned out he was a pimped mission runner with a 1 bil fit. We scanned him and saw the setup and let him go after an 800 mil ransom. We saw he was going into another group of pirates on hsi way out, so we decided to tell him to dock up and let us escort him out of low sec (as he would otherwise have perished in a fire 1 jump later)

I also had a corp m8 give a random new guy in the help channel 200 million some days ago after he had asked some questions.

I remember a guy I killed in low sec who asked me how he could have avoided it. Ended uo with us talking over mail for some weeks, with me teaching him the basics of survival.

If you act friendly. you will often be meet the same way, the problem is that a lot of people have a hard time understanding its a game and the guy who just killed you really havent got any reason to dislike you, hence why you can still talk to him.

Back when the world was new, and Teinyhr was but a wee lass, pirates would occasionally reimburse your ship, particularly if you were new. New being a flexible definition, a pirate in good ol' Amamake/Osoggur gatecamp gave me ISK for a new Stabber when I was about two months into the game and gave me pointers on not getting blown up as often.
I have a feeling this is no longer the case, but I hope someone proves me wrong.

Generally, people can be very helpful if they believe you are a genuine person and not one of the thousands of sob-story scammers.

Shortly after i started some random troll came my way and gave me all his stuff because he wanted to quit.

Felt quite awesome I got my first blue cloak and an enchanted axe... Oh wait, that was Dark age of Camelot... Oops

Nope. Only Nice things I ever experienced in eve was either from my corp or... Hm... I guess there was that one guy that didn't pop my Golem after i accidentally shot him in that mission of mine. And he only charged 250M isk for it, I guess that was nice of him. Big smile

Also that was my first trip ever in a Golem, so one could even say that was extra nice.

Thanks extra nice dude which name I forgott. xD

Nice people exist in EVE, you just never hear about them because they are overshadowed by the butt-wipes.

I would argue that as being down to the wildly different responses between the two acts.

If someone is nice to you in EVE, you might pay that forward a few times, but you largely just remain thankful.

When someone is mean in EVE, all the social justice warriors are lined up to come have a big emo circlejerk about it, each trying to outscream the others about their theoretical moral outrage at people being mean in a videogame.

A guy I barely knew quit EVE and gave me 2 Billion ISK.

But I have given away countless Drakes, Noctis, ISK and the occassional Tengu and Navy Scorpion and Navy Raven...

Oooo, reading Erzwal's post made me remember tha one cool thing ^^

I had a trial account in around 2005.

I had a new catalyst and ad some other guy wanted to fleet up with me t kills some belt rats. Guess we both had the same plan, only I fumbled with the UI and so he shot me first and won. ^^

Looks like we even had similar fits and skills. :P

Well, I flew around in my old frig again a for a bit until someone sent me an email and traded me my old stuff back. Back then I didn't even knew that anything dropped at all. :P

Got an invite to his corp, was a little bit wasted on my trial account since I didn't have a credit card and time codes weren't available at our local store, but that actually was nice. ^^

Rawr!!! bright orange beams from a Hulk, didn't know at the time what one was, shot over my nooblet head. Scared the **** out of me at first. I then convoed the pilot of the ship asking what kind of ship he was flying. He told me then proceeded for a few cycles of mining some ore for me. I would eventually have a Hulk of my own, but now I have forever left the carebear way of life behind.

Uhm

NO

If you mined with an industrial you were just doing it wrong.

actually before barges were introduced (I think mining frigates came after that), there was only 2 ways to mine in EVE: you either locked a rock with your industrial and went afk, while the single miner filled up the cargo hold, or you would get an apoc.

yes, that's right, the mighty apocalypse class battleship was the best mining ship ingame before mining barges were introduced.

no, we didn't had tier3 battleships back then either.

There's this guy in Aliastra who will log on every now and then and give anyone who asks a bit of ISK. That's pretty much all I've got.

Oh, and there was a guy who had a bunch of ships in Arnon, and he dumped them all out of an Orca in dozens of trips. He also flew an Orca full of POS modules into nullsec and got popped by a roaming gang, though. So I don't know if he was kind so much as... had a screw loose.

i was planning on going to nullsec, but really really low on isk, so i couldnt buy the dominix i wanted for ratting, one of the people in an incursion community i run with, asked me what i wanted, and give me the money not for a normal domi, but for a navy one

That guy didn't do you any favors, trust me.
