Recently, i have been at an impasse in my Eve career.

For maybe a year now i have been doing the whole ninja-salvage/ganking and while immensely fun, i am sick off aggro mechanics, and waiting for someone to go flashy to me before i get to shoot, all the while not being able to go to lowsec and shoot what i want in order to keep the aforementioned career going ( missionbears more likely to shoot at positive sec status and my 0.1 keeps business good)
i tried wardecs and all anyone does is dock up for the duration.
i joined FW so i had stuff to shoot at but Min militia all seem to want to do LP grinding and hide from WTs, while the WTs themselves either do the same or stationhug until you are outnumbered 40:1
i dont know null mechanics well, and every time i have went out there, i have had a few small killed before getting blackops dropped or bubblecamped, and i don't know market areas well enough to drop myself in it.

So i am thinking about throwing all my toys out of the crib, revelling in being able to shoot what i want and just going -10 but i have concerns.

  • How is ISK generated?
  • will i need to rely on ratting, or do missions? because i hate missions, i don't do any in highsec and shooting NPCs seems about as boring as shooting asteroids with mining lasers to me.

  • Am i better of joining an established group of pirates or just go at it solo?
  • while solo is great fun, i like roaming around in small gangs shooting anything that moves, camping some gates and laughing at pods popping.

  • Are my previous ninja skills of any use?
  • ie; i enjoy scanning people down, while some people find it tedious, i enjoy knowing some guy is in a complex and is about to get stomped unaware.

  • Any corps recommended for getting into pirate life, and are they looking for people?
  • I know there are "training" corps for Heretics and the like. but i never know if they are hiring..

Dont mind me,  just touching your stuff.

If you don't need high sec for mission running or ratting then there is no worries with going outlaw surely?

Well, it sounds like you aren't going to do pure solo any time in a hurry so definitely look into a corporation.

Most pirate corps I would usually recommend do actually require that you are a decent enough or willing solo PVPer howether.

At this point I'd frankly recommend you consider wormhole PVP. Plenty of sneaky gameplay to go on with there. Solo in a Pilgrim is challenging and limits your targets but is possible. Dual boxing recons / TIII or a combination opens up the opportunities. You could even box cloakies with something like a machariel to provide the DPS. This stuff isn't really too hard to figure out but is way more rewarding than bothering high sec mission runners and you might even get a real fight out of it Blink

I'd vote Wormhole raiding is your in.. Get good at scanning, my poison of choice is a cloaky tengu prober, and me in a Tengu/Loki. It can be quiet, but its pretty smash and grab before they can mobilize a force against you- bubble camping entrances can also be fun with a Rapier/Pilgrim

my income is mainly padded with stealing/ransoms at the moment. i was wondering if the same rules would apply to lowsec. but idiot targets are probably less likely to try their luck in lowsec.

I am more than willing to solo pvp. i regularly go out and solo hunt WTs or anything i think i can face in lowsec. no problems with it, but a lot of the time i'll either die in an overheated fire to their backup, or have to disengane once dscan blows up and leave with semi burnt guns and less ammo. even after trying to bait some tackle away from bigger gangs. its hard to solo anything these days.

i have never managed to catch anything in Wspace so far, i can scan down people and catch them running their plex. but i have crap timing, either warping in as they are leaving, or just as friendly HACs and T3s come in. either that or they all sit in their POS while i sit outside it wishing they would go do something and i can follow

I am good with scanning AFAIK. i have no problem scanning anything down and can usually get a BC/T3 in 2 scans. Also, i am comfortable in the Loki/Rapier. but then again, i'd be hunting yeah, but that would require jumping out when possible to dump off valuables and generate ISK? and i'd only make as much as my cargohold could hold.

EDIT:- i know i can scan down people unaware, even in wspace where people are spamming DSCAN (or at least i am always paranoid they are)

It takes quite a bit of patience at times, and an alt or two to scan/watch different holes..

It can be profitable, and you can even turn up a fight from residents by running their sites for them, and using a cloak to salvage the wrecks (this is generally met with great disdain as its their income source).

Find the site they are running, bookmark it, and any possible warp-in's. Cloak up, and burn away for a bit, usually by the time they come back are comfortable again, Im a good 700km off, and just wait do the same on my 2nd account. Its pretty similar to fishing, just find other ways to keep yourself occupied while watching numerous holes (focused scanning alts can be bought on the character bazaar for less then 2b each) .

Some wormholes can even be sold based on their Variable type, and certain entities in game pay well for the simple discovery of a pulsar/magnetar.

Edit- GoonSwarm had a really good write up on using anchorable bubbles somewhere, think you can google it (if you need to read up on setting up slingshots and other bubble set up tricks)

I think i may do this for a bit, i probably haven't spent enough time trying to actually get anything, they are usually empty when i get to them. and i leave after an hour with a pocket of BMs before being able to catch anything.

if you go outlaw remember to create a neutral indy/trading alt to deal with the secstatus. -10 is a lot less painful when you can actually buy things.

I personally hate WH raiding, but, the reason I hate it is its such a good strategy to employ. For the most part, unless you're into douchebaggery and jumping trash haulers on PI runs you'll get yourself a fight. Learn how the Sleepers work in each class of WH and learn each of the anoms presented they all have unique factors which will effect how you attack someone trying to work one. I've seen more than one would be raider get himself in trouble jumping an anom at the wrong time and getting the attention of not just the Players working the site but the Sleepers they are trying to clear out to.

It takes some planning, and some brave friends on standby.. quite a few people have made an absolute mess of things for WH dwellers solo.. Active 100MN Tengu + Crystals in a Pulsar is a perfect example. Learn the ropes in a C1 or C2 (all over empire space) and learn the ins and outs of wormhole conflict.

If I'm feeling like its a risky venture, a simple Jaguar or Taranis works against most mining fleets, and you can get some amazing bombing run oppurtunities if you find an active hole.. takes a bit of coordination, but fleets of 10-15 bombers can wreak absolute havoc on the locals there..

Its a search, and sometimes you come out empty handed, but occasionally you find that battle you talk about for months.

And there are a number of pure wormhole alliances that are very aggressive when it comes to hunting others, and are willing to show you the ropes.

Just gonna answer a few of your questions as to how I see it from my pirate view and try give my tips:

    How is ISK generated?
I basically have three incomes, first is loot, in FLA5HY RED we have loot payouts every month where the top 10 killers share all the loot we gathered on corp roams and camps this usually net about 60m for each of em (not much i know!), if we kill a faction fitted ship all the people on the killmail will share directly on the faction loot that drops (and the rest of the loot goes into corp hangar) which can net a pretty good amount though its not often we find theese ships. The second income is ransoms, again this goes directly to the members involved in the ransom and tbh lately we have been able to claim pretty nice and more ransoms then before from people who dont want their pod to show up on our killboard. Thirdly Im afraid is carebear stuff with alts, and in my case its ratting (I sometimes use my alts for pirate activity as well so ratting sec status up and getting a good profit from it is nice).

Am i better of joining an established group of pirates or just go at it solo?
I find this to be a personal choice, but the group I found and fly with do so much other stuff that isnt eve as well (play WoT, Skyrim, Battlefield etc etc), they are all great pilots to fly with and the trolling of eachother makes for lots of laughs and I would never trade this for a solo career. As I said personal choice.

Are my previous ninja skills of any use?
Yes, I find myself scanning and dscanning all the time almost.

Any corps recommended for getting into pirate life, and are they looking for people?
My corp is always looking out for new good recruits, if you want you can always come down and fly with us (without joining) and test this lil group out if you like, just send me a message ingame or something and Ill see what I can arrange since our corp members are a bit trigger happy on people flying around in local. We also have an academy, dunno if this is for you really but its always a great way into a pirate corp and a few pirate corps got em. We are classic pirates and do the classical things involving Rocky themed hulk ganking, even done some wh stuff (was a bit boring in lowsec though seems 9 of 10 whs you find is inactive, not empty just noone out flying and we dont have patience to wait a few hours :P)

Hope I gave you another view =)

You sound like you would enjoy the challenges that wspace offers. There are a lot of corp and alliances out here that are looking for pilots with your skills. Patience is a big part of wormhole pvp, and since you know how to scan already, that gives you an edge over a lot of the newer folks that are trying wormhole life for the first time.
