True, you can use an external media player to play music. I'm pretty sure that was still the case when the juke box was introduced. I'd have to say I prefer the functionality of the jukebox being in game, so I don't need to alt- tab or use a separate display to change songs. That's one bit of functionality that was lost, for good.

And how exactly, did it interfere with the games ambient music?

That's what multimedia keys are for. Blink
Not to mention that managing the juke box (adding and removing tracks, using multiple play lists etc) was a mess.

It interfered with the ambient music (or perhaps more accurately the other way around) by using the same system: a track that was triggered by a game event would jump you to that part of your play list, or just reset it to the beginning. They simply made it so that there was no player control to disrupt.

I had no problem with loading tracks into the juke box, was fairly simple IIRC.

The only time I can think of that what I was playing would be changed was for "mission music", which seems like a prety **** poor reason to remove that functionality.

However, if I recall correctly, CCP posted before in a thread about this saying they wanted to remove it so they wouldn't have to worry about performing maintenance to the juke box, or something along those lines. Eh, it's probably gone forever.

I too miss the jukebox.

However in Stain, there is no music!

Instead it's some creepy stuff that reminds me of the movie "The Ring".

I was docked in a station in Stain last week, and had the music on and left the volume up while AFK.

It scared the crap out of me, especially the part that sounds like a ghost humping a saxophone.

Well done!

The jukebox and its Eve music was wonderful so why oh why was it removed?
Because it didn't add anything that players don't already have (with more and better functionality) already, and mainly just interfered with the ambient music the game provided.

Well, there was one feature which you can't (easily) get out-of-game: the game music would be muted when anyone is talking through EVE Voice.

That's true enough. Then again, how many use EVE Voice?
Also, I wonder if there are any media players with “push to mute” functionality…?

I feel compelled to head out to Stain, just to find out what the hell you are talking about. I can't even begin to imgaine the sound you just described.

... wonders if CCP actually realizes how many "brownie points" they could score with the customers by reinstating some form of Jukebox...

You know...

I agree, Id like the Jukebox back too

But htis time it should have DJ Atomica from Burnout to tell us all about the exciting features and tasks you can complete for your space-licence

Assuming legalities with the composers / artists could be reasonably met ... I'd just be wondering WHY our good and imaginative people at CCP haven't figured out yet that they could actually SELL various soundtracks, for the JUKEBOX, as yet another micro-transaction.

It wouldn't appeal to everyone, but it's feasible.

Although EVE Jukebox was a neat addition to the game, it really was redundant.

- There's an official CCP SoundCloud channel here: https://soundcloud.com/ccpgames. You can listen to any track you want while you play and you can make your own playlists there;

- For example, I use Grooveshark for playlists (non-CCP tracks) when I'm playing for the simple fact that it supports LEAP Motion controller: I can change a track with a wave of my hand Cool

- If you don't want to waste additional bandwidth on music, there's plenty of good audio players which supports much more than EVE Jukebox ever did.

BTW. I love the nullsec/wh theme.... I could listen to it for hours Blink

People who know me personally would not bat an eye over the description and would be afraid to bet over whether I have or had not ever heard a ghost trying to screw a wind instrument. Cool

I unsubbed 3 accounts for a nearly a year over the removal of the jukebox. Dumbest change ever. What good reason was there for removing it? Even if it was crappy compared to other music players, it was nice having it in game. Even if CCP didn't want to improve it, why remove it? It worked, tons of people use it, just leave it in our menu. The in game calculator and browser are pretty ****** too, yet they are still there.

BRING BACK THE DAMN JUKEBOX.

I do believe that the big problem was that it was using Windows 95 technology and was getting harder and harder to work around.

We know that.. But the problem is that CCP removed the ability to control the music COMPLETELY. I have to say i hate certain tracks. The only option to skip the track is esc, move slider for music down and up again.. On the opposite i love certain tracks that are played ONLY IN CERTAIN REGIONS !!!

Quote:
"play music from soundcloud in the background"

Sorry but this is such horrible argument as telling me "if you are not satisfied with absence of radio in your car, bring one from your house"

If it is such a problem to maintaining the jukebox, give us at least basic functions to control the music like:
-"skip this track "button
-turn on/off dynamic music
-play all tracks (turn on/off music filter based on region location)
etc...

If it is possible to skip the track by moving the slider, i believe it would be no problem to make simple button for it !! Roll

But you removed it? why.
Apart from the code being old and breaking things, there where other reasons.

Thread locked as CCP stated several times the jukebox is not coming back.
