CCP - please make access to data/relic mini-games dependent upon skill

I am not sure if this has been suggested already or not....I did a forums search and found nothing.....but.....

There are 2 suggestions that I have for the current 'broken' (imo) aspect of the data/relic sites......

You created the mini-game....cool. It makes them funner. I get that. In the past, you had to rely on trained skill to be able to access the loot inside the can. This system was mundane, but it worked. It reserved the loot for people who put the time into training to reap the rewards. Now, with how the system is....any noob with a scanning frig and a data analyzer can fail on the can and pop them, along with the loot and despawn the site.

I watched a 2 week year old toon fail on 3 cans right in a row last night, before I finally got fed up, made him primary and popped his ship, and his pod.......

I don't mean to sound elitist, but comeon....I didn't spend the time to train the skills I have just to have some 2 week year old toon running around failing and despawning all the sites I have trained to have success at.

Solutions -

1) make access to the mini-game dependent on skill. If they have the proper level of skill trained, then they can have access to the mini-game. If not, no dice.....it keeps the site spawned for people who have the skill to actually have success at it.

2) make the sites much harder to scan down. This would be a secondary solution, seeing as how someone can have good scanning skills, but still lack the skills to successfully hack the site.

Let the flaming begin........

If you have the ability to pop the noobs, what are you complaining about? Just pop them and do the site. Roll

The majority of the noobs will stay in hi-sec, more power to them if they venture further than that for greater reward.

So you got angry someone else got to the exploration site first and you want CCP to add artificial barriers to the game that makes those sites accessible exclusively to you?

You may have popped his ship and pod but you still sound like a carebear.

the better question is, what are doing in sites that noobs can access?

go into deep null and stop complaining.

or hop into a marauder and go do wormholes.

How are they broken?
And yes, someone beat you to the site and you ended up with nothing… so what? Be quicker next time.

All the people who have responded with negative comments and trolls......I will ask you one thing. What negative impact would it have on the game if CCP made this change?

Wait, you are asking that access should be based on skill because someone without skill couldnt access it?

Or you are pissed that he despawned a site that you were using to hunt scanners on?

What are you asking for?

You will need to be clearer on that

You said it yourself, limiting new players.

And for what reason? an apparent "veteran" cant seem to accept that someone else simply got somewhere before him. You seem to make this desire based on the idea that having more sp than the other guy makes you more entitled to the rewards, and you should get a VIP pass to special sites just for you.

Maybe you didn't want to sound elitist, but in reality what you are asking for only seems to fall into that category.

It would arbitrarily and for no good reason lock out the aforementioned two-week old alts (or, indeed, characters of any age) from running around failing and despawning them.

Why do you feel because you trained some skills they should not be able to access them?

I will remind everyone that it USED to be based on skill. I'm just asking a revert back to that. Wow.....everyone wants something for nothing it seems. Train the skills to get the rewards. *Snip* Please refrain from personal attacks. ISD Ezwal.

I can see what the OP is griping about but cannot justify the gripe.
In my experience you can take a ship with low virus and hack bonuses and no rigging for it even to deep nullsec and if you are good at the mini game, you can still hack the cans. After a while the mini game starts to show a pattern and you go from losing half the cans to hacking all of them.

Now for the more meritocratic amongst us, this is not going to be good:

So what I found is possible is with good mini game experience you can hack in a warp/agility rigged and double-stabbed interceptor,go just about anywhere, and hack cans. While blowing through the gank pipelines (the key is not to linger because you can traverse systems faster than they can position a disco BS once the intel channels start crying).

You will find yourself saying things like "A bubble camp. How adorable".

I have done exactly this. Yes you still lose a ship eventually, like in my case, taking a chance in a ghost site (arg! Lol) but by the time your luck runs out you will have paid for the several times over. Suffice to say you don't need to be Mr Skillpoints to do this. The mini game starts to feel kind of lame once you have mastered it like we were mastering Pac Man back in the 80's.

…and it still is. Without the skill, you get absolutely nothing. With low skills, you most likely get nothing.

No, not everyone. Just you. You want the stuff without the competition. The other guy didn't get anything, remember?

This post doesnt even make sense.

So, instead of skill (as in experience) you think that Skills (as in XP) are a stronger indiction of ability?

*Snip* Please refrain from personal attacks. ISD Ezwal.

You think that a counter passively counting up while you do nothing is some sort of indication of worth?

And how do you find a site without scanning skills?

And how do you hack it without hacking skills?

*Snip* Removed reply to an edited out part of the quoted post. ISD Ezwal.

A 2007 'toon' like yourself shouldn't really be doing data/relic sites anymore.

Move on to more challenging PVE content and leave the easiest sites to the newbros.

Are you giving out free datacores and decryptors for my invention alt then? Big smile

Buy them from the newbros, that way you'll support them (with ISK) instead of popping the poor dudes.

It would cut off newer players from content they should have the right to attempt, and disincentivize new players from making trips into low and null, which is bad. I still fail hard archaeology cans sometimes with my archaeology at 4. Maybe its not fun for you, but even though the hacking market is crashed the relic market is still in good enough shape to prop up null exploration just fine. Also there are more than enough sites out there for both of you.

To sum up, stop being such a care bear.

You guys have convinced me......

.......

I will just buy the datacores/decryptors off of the market and spend the time I would save going around and popping the noob frigates that happen to stumble upon the data/relic sites.

Thank you for the feedback.
