I'm not one to rant unless it's ingame and fun but this has been niggling me for a long time.

CCP, why the hell did you remove the ingame music player? I hear countless complaints of null sec / Wh players completely annoyed off the background music. In hi sec it is the same repeat.

We had an ingame music player, we could actually change the tracks too. \o/
But you removed it? why. I can accept nerfing ships but anyone in your department that feels its fit to nerf the ambience and immersion should be shot in the foot.

Ok, maybe there is news on this or another complaint but I'm not about to wade through months of text especially when there is no update.

My dear CCP, sometimes atmosphere and awe does not come just by graphics... we do have other senses too.

In all seriousness, how many people actually play EVE for hours on end with the music on anyway? They could probably take it out completely and half the playerbase wouldn't even notice.

Not to say the music isn't good. It's just not something people wish to listen to constantly.

Seriously though, a lot of people have complained about this.

The jukebox and its Eve music was wonderful so why oh why was it removed? To me it is a silly move by ccp.

Yes, we can listen to external music but that would defeat the point of immersion which ccp 'once' had in quantities.

wait till they remove the browser

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I completely agree. Taking out the in-game juke box and music player was one of the dumbest things CCP has ever done.

I do not like the men on this spaceship. They are uncouth and fail to appreciate my better qualities. I have something of value to contribute to this mission if only they would realize it. - Bill Frug

I do. I keep it at a reasonable volume so it doesn't drown out comms, but I could listen to it all day while playing. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

Problem is now, that it seems certain songs are specific to certain regions. I get the same songs over and over, and over. So it kinda makes eve music suck.

In null sec you don't really get music at all (at least the region I was in), you just get....weird back ground noise.

That why the jukebox was cool. You could add your own tracks and control the volume/play selection from within the game UI. I thought it was fantastic.

I'm trying to think of when a MMO company removed a feature and it turned out to be a good thing - especially a feature that doesn't effect gameplay and the player can turn on and off at will. Just stupid. Bring it back. I'm sick of the weird endless whispery humming in W-space.

The only reason I started playing eve was for the music.

Because it didn't add anything that players don't already have (with more and better functionality) already, and mainly just interfered with the ambient music the game provided.

True, you can use an external media player to play music. I'm pretty sure that was still the case when the juke box was introduced. I'd have to say I prefer the functionality of the jukebox being in game, so I don't need to alt- tab or use a separate display to change songs. That's one bit of functionality that was lost, for good.

And how exactly, did it interfere with the games ambient music?

Removing jukebox was a big loss. I often played few songs over and over again and sometimes played whole music song list. Sometimes I got bored of same music songs repeating over and over again so I shut jukebox off. After break I activated it again when I got tired of silence.

Jukebox allowed me to control music in EVE. Yes EVE music is now in some internet site but that isn't same thing. Now I'm forced to hear music based on where I'm currently and I have no control over what is played.

Bring jukebox back!

That's what multimedia keys are for. Blink
Not to mention that managing the juke box (adding and removing tracks, using multiple play lists etc) was a mess.

It interfered with the ambient music (or perhaps more accurately the other way around) by using the same system: a track that was triggered by a game event would jump you to that part of your play list, or just reset it to the beginning. They simply made it so that there was no player control to disrupt.

I do believe that the big problem was that it was using Windows 95 technology and was getting harder and harder to work around.

It was a massive rock in the river of "progress".
