Does the Tempest have a use yet?

Hey guys just got back from a long break. Was just wondering if the Tempest has any use in PvP or PvE yet that isn't horribly outclassed somewhere else. Back when tiericide hit there were a lot of complaints about the Tempest being effectively useless. I'm just curious as to if that's still the case or if they were overreacting.

It's a decent anti-capital armor BS in small gangs, decent dps, decent tank and 2 heavy neuts.

In general, Megathrons are vastly superior to all other battleships for all PvP roles, to the point where you're horribly gimping yourself flying anything else. The only exceptions are the Armageddon for its obviously unique role, and the Apoc if you really, really need EM damage to the point that you're willing to fly a 7-gun Apoc that has 75% of the DPS and EHP of the Megathron at any given range.

The Tempest needs a grid mod to fit artillery, which leaves you with 5 low slots and 3 rig slots for tank and DPS mods. The Megathron needs no fitting mods and has eleven slots for DPS and tank. It's not hard to figure out which one is better.

So weird that after all those years, the rail megathron has come full circle. But yes, tempest for anti-cap work only.

And there are better anti capital BS galore.

Its terrible. 2 Heavy Neuts - useless, worst cap, small cargo. COME ON. Its been crap for ages, CCP are clueless about how to fix it.

Make the TFI the new Tempest, make the new TFI an armour Maelstrom with tracking bonuses.

Gonna have to disagree with just about everyone above.

Atleast for PVP its the best alround Battleship. Everyone above is right, its not great at anything. But its decent at most things.

Main thing it is is mean.

It has a lot of mids and after prop mod and tackle what do you really need on an armor tanked ship? So 3 slots are a playground to annoy the frick out of whoever you're fighting.

Its why the armor Gnossis works, mids, mids, mids.

The Autopest can still put out some first class damage... damn near 800 eft dps before adding any damage mods.

"Small gang" and "battleship" don't fit together with the warp speed changes.

It's the best at being built into a Vargur. v0v

Rise has said in a thread in F&I though that the next step is a HAC and battleship polish pass. I'd watch out if I was a Dominix or Ishtar but there's potentially hope for some fitting space or something for the Tempest there.

There is a lot of hoping on rather every aspect involved when talking about tempest & polishing. Don't think though that either the Dominix or the Ishtar need further downward tweaking.

I suspect there is a reason that for the upcoming AT the Dominix and Ishtar are both singled out to cost more points than any of the other ships from their respective classes.

They probably realized that an artificial arena scenario makes that whole "suck my damage projection" style of the Ishtar/Dominix even better than usual.

The limited arena size makes sentries more powerful than they are on TQ.

As for a Tempest rebalance. I wish they would roll the damage bonus into 1 and give it a tracking or falloff bonus. Or stick with the same bonus and just give it increased warp speed like the mach.

Hadn't considered the limited arena size, I figured they just didn't want a super bland Ishtars online AT.

I like the idea of a falloff bonus on the Tempest though.
