Is CCP's response to this for real?

To summarize, apparently it's perfectly legitimate gameplay to:
1. Log off in a bubble (e.g. in a POS) or outside a camped station (or wait for downtime to log you off automatically)
2. Log in with only seconds left before next downtime
3. Log back in later and have your ship warp to a spot off grid from your original location

Isn't this an obvious exploit that should be fixed?

I put this in the FAID section for feedback and discussion of possible solutions (not sure if it's the right section). Some potential solutions:
1. Make downtime somewhat random (say 5-10 min random interval)
2. If in warp at downtime, record ship position as final landing position instead (with consideration of bubbles, etc.)
3. Ship doesn't disappear from space if inside a bubble (won't fix all problems though)
4. Ship automatically logs back in after downtime for a few min if it was in space before downtime (maybe with some sort of invulnerability at first?). I think this would be cool but I foresee some problems and a lot of complaints from all the risk-averse players.

Thoughts?

If you think something is an exploit you never ever ever ever post that exploit for public discussion ever. Report it via the ingame bug report tool and keep it between you and a CCP liaison.

First, this was already posted on themittani.com. Second, CCP apparently said this was not an exploit, so what exactly is the problem with discussing a game mechanic (that I personally happen to think is bad) in public?

Both points are irrelevant. If you think it's an exploit there is no point at which it is acceptable to report it on a public format of any sort because it further proliferates the potential exploit. This is basic logic.

This is also the wrong board to report bugs. Bugs are to be reported to the issues and workarounds forum.

If you are discussing a game mechanic that you do not like and not an exploit, then why does the title have the word exploit in it?

Also, not everyone reads TMC. I wouldn't not have known about this if it had not have been for your post. That is the point Kaerakh is trying to make.

Please be more specific. :)

Actually, both points are not irrelevant. If CCP says something is *not* an exploit, it really doesn't matter what I think. If it's not an exploit, then it's not a bug, and this doesn't belong in the issues section either.

If CCP has changed their mind and thinks now that this is an exploit now that it's public, they can delete this thread. Clearly if CCP really thought this was an exploit, it would have been fixed by now. Fast and easy solution, make a small random downtime interval. Patch ready for next downtime. But it's not fixed, and it's not an exploit, so let's discuss. It might make the game better...

Because I happen to think this is on the level of exploit. CCP says this is not an exploit.

Congratulations you've single handedly missed every single point I've made because you're too concerned with one upping me. Have a nice day.

You are way too concerned with being a forum warrior. I responded to your points directly. Care to be more specific regarding exactly what I missed?

The goal of making this public is the same as making any bad game mechanic public in FAID. If enough people think it's bad, CCP can see that, change it, and make the game better. The solution to this bad mechanic is not what you suggest - to simply control the spread of the information (good luck with that as it was already posted on themittani.com as I said). The solution is to fix the bad mechanic. And that won't happen if CCP thinks it's not broken.

obviously CCP has seen it, said no, and left it. You don't seem to like that, and claiming it is an exploit, posted it in F&I. If you really do believe it is an exploit, then you have shown completely disregard for the rules, even after being corrected.

Making a bad/unfair mechanic known is not the same as an exploit. An exploit uses loopholes in the games basic rules. Bad mechanic is something as part of the game itself that is loopy.

Sorry moderator, what rule did I disregard? This is a bad mechanic, not an exploit, because that is what CCP says. Change the title to "bad downtime mechanic", who really cares?

Please don't post and waste everybody's time unless you actually have something constructive to say. I was looking for opinions re how to fix what I think is a bad mechanic (and IMO an exploit) to make the game better for everyone. You and have others have created a lot of hostility for no reason, while contributing absolutely nothing to the discussion.

And no, I don't like that CCP "has seen it, said no, and left it". Do you? That's why I created this thread - so that others could share their opinion.

I bolded the part that is relevant since you are arguing something that is black and white. There is no room for interpretation as the rule is written.

This is not an exploit, according to CCP. Are you done now?

if its not an exploit why are u calling it an 'obvious exploit'?

Isn't this an obvious exploit that should be fixed?

edit-

1. No. U cant just go 'SURPRISE!! its downtime'. Ppl are scurrying to safe areas or trying to do that last minute thing before the servers go down.
2. May work. If eve knows how to create a log on point for somewhere ur not.
3. Dont know. i personally dnt know why CCP changed that in the first place.
4. No. u dnt have to be risk averse to see how forcefully logging players in is a really, really bad idea.

Because *I* think it should be considered an exploit. CCP does not think this is an exploit, which I think is wrong but I've also said this numerous times. Yet nobody has a problem with that apparently. The problem is my forum post...

I love how no one posted about the actual issue lol, you should all be very proud of yourselves.

I've changed the title now, I hope you are happy.
