apart from some of the street names, ie lighthouse road with lighthouse bar at the top of the road, that has never had a lighthouse

or the fact you can't drink and drive but for some reason you can drink and ride a horse.

then there is some of the food you eat over there.

you guys know what is weird? Mom and Dad can sign you up to go kill people for mega corporation's interests erm I mean the government with 17 years of age, or you can sign up yourself with 18 years of age , but you can only enjoy a refreshing beer legally once you are 21 years old. Now , that is weird.

Looks like I won't be going to Iceland anytime soon. My name is weird by American standards, over there I might get arrested for being a cultural terrorist.

This translates as "Get off the computer and go change the oil in my car!", that shouldn't turn anyone on. Pirate

Can the horse drink, too or just the rider?

So that makes sense... At least to the part of my (romance language speaking) mind that hasn't been blown by the idea of conjugating names.Shocked

Are you calling Icelandic a 'romance language'?!?!!

I swear, if my wife sauntered up to me in some skimpy outfit and leaned over and whispered "Fá af tölvunni og fara að breyta olíu í bílnum mínum!" I wouldn't be turned on at all.. id more than likely tie her up and dowse her with holy water.

Heh.

Romance language just means that it is derived from the language of the Romans, i.e. Latin. Which Icelandic most certainly is not.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

Vikings did it, so it must be OK.

To save kids from names like 'moon unit', I don't think it's a bad restriction.

(The Icelandic people I've met have, in general, been nice folks. A little prone to speaking to me in Icelandic, but I can't really complain about that.)

Seriously, it's like speaking Klingon family names, but without the nice perks (no bladed weapons, no cool uniforms or cloaking device)

Viking paraphernalia is at least as cool as Klingon - swords, axes, dragon boats, horned helmets, mead. They eat boiled sheep heads, and whales. They have volcanoes so active that you can poke them with a stick and shut down all of the airspace over Europe, if only you can find a stick. Icelandic people give Klingons a run for their money any day.

You should embrace it. Horned helmets may be historically inaccurate, but they are indisputably badass.

Those are antlers, not horns. And to be honest, I think samurai are almost as badass as vikings. Probably better fighters, but less fun to share a horn of mead with.
