Hello there.
I think it should be changed how Amarr pilots are getting missions regarding Guristas and Serpentis. The problem with these missions is especially clear in level 4 missions where both Guristas and Serpentis ships resistance to EM and Thermal are way too high, and require either incredible amount of dps or require that the damage done is Kinetic which is not available for us who prefer to fly Amarr ships.

One specific mission which has been one of the most hated missions for a long time is The Assault - Level 4 regarding Guristas. This problem was even stated back in 2008 in http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=837226 but has not been fixed or looked over by CCP.

I hope this will be looked into since it's very time consuming and frustrating to do these missions.

Many regards
Celthric

Just get a Legion with the missile-subsystem and make it a tanky beast. Low sig + a few medium-grade Halo-implants and it tanks better then any battleship, thanks to the reduced damage from larger rats.

For level 3 missions a Sacrilege would also work. Or take an Armageddon and load up on drones. (The Armageddon can also be fitted with launchers, so you have additional DPS.)

Wait, you do have weapon skills besides lasers, I hope? Because if not, wow.

All my support skills are 5 except Surgical strike and Large Energy Turret Speci which are 4...

What about missiles and drones? Also T2? If you're too deeply specialized into Amarra and lasers, just take a Navy Apoc or Paladin sniper-fit and overwhelm those stupid rats with massive DPS from far, far away.

(In my case, I'm lucky to be a fan of the Pilgrim and the Sacrilege, so I heavily invested in both missile and drone skills.)

Funny you should mention it... I have flown the Navy Apoc for aproxx. 6-8 months with a full rack of t2 mega pulse lasers with a dps around 850 turret alone, 1058 with drones. (Drones are t2 as well with drone support skills at 4. )

The funny thing is that you mention the Sacrilege which I just finished training for, all my support skills are 4, but atm I'm training for HAM's.

I pointed out a you can fly a different Amarr ship to easily deal with Angel rats. With the huge buff to T1 sentry drones it doesn't even require much training.

If you want to be silly and pretend that's not an option so you can cry about not getting exclusive EM and thermal weak rats in Amarr space by all means go for it.

Or perhaps they can climb out of their "Amarr Victor!!" silly dedication to one Empire and one weapon type and cross train. Prophesy = 4x lazors + good drone support. Don't like drone? Go missiles. Don't like missiles? Go projectile. You're only limiting yourself and what you can do (or more correctly, are WILLING to do) in-game.

Here in the real world you use the right tool for the job. But you refuse to do so in a game? Why intentionally inject frustration into your downtime away from RL???? Sometimes I just don't understand some of you guys.

and im pointing out that to do that u need to train for two new weapons systems whereas if u started caldari u wouldnt have to.

where did i say that flying a geddon was not an option?

also didnt i say that i would be happy if they reduced the frequency of the guristas and angels misisons?

and also yes i am sitting here tears streaming down my face.

but if u started caldari or minmatar ur good to go as far as pve is concerned and guess what? thats only one weapons system for each.

so you have to spend time and money (or isk/plex) keeping ur account active to get new skills. whereas those who started caldari or minmatar dont have to.

Unless of course they want to be able to fly the Caldari hybrid boats or the other half of the Minmitar ship lineup. Since there are actually two weapon systems for each race.

Never mind that a good number of Caldari missile boats are locked to kinetic damage which is terrible against Blood Raiders and Sansha, that all of them are shield tankers which makes them weak to the EM damage of Blood Raiders and Sansha, and they all loose DPS to NPC defender missiles no matter what rats they are shooting at. Oh and projectiles are bad at dealing kinetic damage and loose DPS to falloff.

If you're flying any race BS I hope you have basic drones trained... This includes Caldari and Amarr

It takes less than a day to train sentry drones to 3 and four days to train to 4. I hardly would think would qualify as "training a new weapon system".

I understand that you're saying it's difficult for Amarr laser ships to engage non EM weak NPC's. I'm saying Amarr also has a class of drone ships where you would have no issues. If you just choose to be stubborn and not do this you're only making things difficult for yourself. No point in cutting off your nose to spite your face.

This thread is really funny to me because I started caldari and almost immediately cross trained amarr because I hated buying ammo so often. I recently cross trained gallente too in order to have more ships to fly with all my drone skills that I developed along the way. Today I run a stratios most of the time and with drones/t1 crystals I never even think about ammo which is a great feeling.

I don't know if the OP simply rushed hard into battleships without the right support skills, which is imo a huge blunder given how lucrative exploration or even lowsec ratting now can be in smaller ships relative to slowly trying to run L4 missions with bad skills, but for me the apocalypse never failed me in a mission. I lost one the first time I did the worlds collide bonus room, but other than that silly mistake I never had a ship go down or fail a mission because I couldn't apply enough dps or tank it long enough.

Actually, I did not get into a BS before 1½ year of playing... and by the time I finally got a BS, I wasn't able to equip it that well...
So I trained for t2 large mega pulse lasers... Which took me aproxx. 65 days of training before they nerfed it, and another 20 days or so for t2 hardeners and repair module...

Today my Amarr BS skill is 5, All gunnery skill 5 (except surgical strike), drone skills are at 5, except drone support skills which are at 4.

It's fair to say I can fly Amarr frigates, cruisers and Battleships quite good... The thing I'm annoyed about is how I get missions where the Guristas and Serpentis BS's reduce my volley damage of 3000 to 750 because of their resistance...

Note: With Conflag I got 850 dps (1058 with t2 drones) and 668 with Scorch (876 with t2 drones)

1. Years training doesn't mean a lot. I trained for about that long before getting into battlecruisers because I mostly did exploration in an arbitrator, but if you train wisely you can have a decent battleship pilot in less than a year. Basically it's not about sp, but about where you sp are.

2. Megapulse with scorch is still the envy of a lot of races, but obviously you don't want to use it vs. em resistant rats. Frankly I didn't have t2 large pulse for a while. I used meta beams for ages, with great success. Again, it's not so much about the sp itself as where you put it and how you use it.

If you have these skills, I think the problem may lie with your piloting. Are you aware of how to minmized transversal velocity? Do you know how to pulse tank, manage mission triggers, and take advantage of range/sig/speed tank with an afterburner or microjump drive? All these skills make a huge diffirence and you can google them if you're not sure.

There's really not a lot of diffirence in isk/hr between the mid-level battleships in missions. Where you're wasting some time firing extra laser volleys, some raven pilot without rigor catalyst rigs is spending more volleys on frigates and cruisers or utilizing drone skills more often on any kind of rat in general even when they have range. To make a long story shot, there are just annoying missions in general. Until you get to the point where you can pilot an expensive marauder or faction battleship, getting hung up on a mission or two that goes slower than the rest is to be expected. It happens to any ship, not just amarr.

Listen, I do not look for missions that doesn't provide EM weak rats... I'm just tired of getting missions versus Guristas and Serpentis even though I do all my lvl 4 missions in the heart of Amarr space.

You *could* train Caldari, but you'd be sub-par compared to gun boats in clearing missions.

Thats the trade-off. Caldari get missiles that dont miss but get Defender'd, but you gotta deal with Flight Time, Explosion Radius, Explosion Velocity, and Missile Speed.

Everyone else gets Hitscan weapons, but gotta deal with Tracking, Optimal, Falloff, Ammo Swappage for range, Signature Resolution on the guns, and locked damage types.

This is EVE. There is no "One Ship To Rule Them All" that has all the bonuses but no penalties.

Last time I checked nome of the Pirate factions were friends with any Empire faction. I'm not currently in game so this may have changed.

Yes I too would love to constantly get BR and Sansha to shoot at so I can blitz through them with my Paladin. That would get me the most ISK per hour but missions are boring enough as it is without dumbing them down further.

You keep talking about the need to train a new weapon system. Drones aren't a new weapon system. Even a laser BS has a drone bay. It takes less than a day for sentry drones if you don't already have them.

of course the other option is to fly for Amarr agents located in someone elses space, Joint Harvesting in Minmatar space for example, that way you are flying Amarr missions but getting the other factions local mission mix.

just saying.

I got your point. You don't want to fight Guristas lol, Serpentis, and maybe Angel but you're not asking for only EM weak rats lol.

You posted about it was so difficult shooting them with lasers and I pointed out you could be in a Amarr drone ship without having to cross train another race.

You're just asking to remove this inconvenience to you. Yes missions need to be made easier

dont u need drone interfacing V to even start training the sentry drones skill? Thats roughly 20 days on its own nevermind then getting into actual sentry drone training

i have already cross trained. becuase amarr were so limited in who they could effectively fight. i now fly a vargur. and yes my drones skills are not great i have interfacing to IV.
