Just tested this in the browser and it works! I thought the IGB didn't allow web sockets? Can someone please clarify

socket.io is not just websockets - that's only one of the transports supported. Most likely it's falling back to simply polling the server. If I recall correctly, the socket object had debug properties, including the used transport - go check it out yourself.
