The Goonswarm recruitment scam is nearly old as EVE itself. They only recruit from the Something Awful forums. If you are not a member of that and not recruited from there it is a scam. They offer to move your stuff it is a scam.

EVE Rule No1 Trust no one. 100% percent of the victims of scams, corp thefts, intel leaks, alliance thefts, and awoxings violated it.

I try to be nice and mind my business just shooting lasers at rocks. There is just way too many asshats in New Eden for that to happen.

Goonswarm even says on their wikipedia entry that they will scam you unless you go through the correct recruitment process. I don't really know how much more obvious it needs to be.

Ok, you can get them to use this;

EvE is a game where, if you are not paying attention, you WILL get scammed.

Does that work for you?

Including elaborate scams from the recruitment channels such as finding your LF corp message and convoing you so that there is no way for CCP to track them down by their own add?

NO

Happened to me and CCP did absolutely nothing.

Many, many new players including myself joined Eve because of shiny spaceships, not because they wanted to research how to now get scammed in a new MMO. Its just something people generally don't anticipate as acceptable in an MMO because in-game scamming is generally not acceptable in other MMOs.

Sorry, where was it ever written that CCP are required to do anything about this?

Welcome to an MMORPG that is different; one where YOUR actions have consequences.

"something people generally don't anticipate as acceptable in an MMO" Well then perhaps "people" should do their research into the new MMO they are going to play?

And please tell me more about this elaborate scam from the recruitment channel. I would dearly love to hear how convincing it is.

The sticky would end up as TL;DR

I consider myself lucky in that I heard about EVE from Goons I know elsewhere.

I don't know if their sarcasm detector is broken or not... I didn't feel it was important to speculate on that.

Many new players joined because they'd heard about massive ingame scams and thefts via media sites (GHSC, Ebank, T4U, BoB disbanding etc). One of the game trailers even shows a player making the decision to inflitrate and rob an alliance. It's a core part of the game and something anyone can find out within minutes of watching trailers or looking up media sites. If you chose to do no research whatsoever when starting a new game, particularly a sandbox MMO, you only have yourself to blame.

CCP can track anyone, so can you via your chatlogs if someone convoed you. The reason they won't act upon a recruitment scam complaint is because it's allowed by the game rules. Take a leaf from the OPs book, learn from your mistakes and move on. There are rules in place to protect very new players from harassment and griefing, but none to protect people from their own decisions.

Retitle the thread "Careful when dealing with everyone in EvE" and the blindingly obvious bit might just leap out at us all.

Highlighted your problem.

You are the poster boy for everything I've ever talked about on these forums lol.

You came to a game that everyone else knows about. People won't don't even play EVE know what EVE is like. Yet you downloaded a game client, created a character and started investing time and money into it, yet couldn't be arsed to Google 'EVE Online' before doing any of it.

You came to EVE not for EVE Online game play but because it has shiney ships, not understanding that EVE is an open world sandbox game. That's like playing Grand Theft Auto because it has nice cars and being surprised at all the crime and Hoe Stomping that occurs in it lol.

The company that makes EVE started 17 years ago in 1997 (and advertised what kind of game they were making). The game itself was launched in 2003 (11 years ago). That entire time no one has hidden what EVE online is, what it's about and what kind of gameplay it has.

And yet, despite all the above, somehow your irresponsibility (in not having a single clue about this game that you paid some form of money for) is someone Else's fault. Somehow, CCP is supposed to turn it's back on 17 years of history to 'do something' about you getting scammed...

I find people like this to be amazing...in a bad way.

I was only mentioning how a scammer can avoid posting in the corp recruitment channel by directly convoing people. CCP actually does investigate recruitment scams and does take action if there is an add in the channel. In my case the did not.

As also mentioned in my first post i learned my lesson and moved on. Some players don't and this is why they quit.
No need to get angry about it or take it personally. If you are finding people being amazingly bad then perhaps reassess your post which is most definitely erroneous
