I'm certainly not saying that solo/small gang is in a wonderful place; it's not. At the same time, the more options you provide for people to engage in PvP that does not require them to leave highsec or any area of relative comfort/safety, the less you're going to see these people branch out into low/null to find fights. Sure, you may draw people into these arenas that otherwise would not have engaged in PvP. But ultimately these arenas are going to become even more formulaic and flavor of the month than the current PvP metas already are, and open PvP in other areas of space is going to suffer for it.

On the flip side could we get more people to try PVPing if there was another path to getting your feet wet like an arena environment? Honestly not sure but its a thought I had... There are too many players now that just don't even try to pew...

As said.. why do you need ccp to do this for you? You can easily throw together a website, get ppl to sign up, pick a HS system and have a pvp turny. You have player a duel player b. then player c dual player e etc. Keep track of rankings on your own via k/d on your own site and use api, you can script it to rank it, and have your own brackets. You don't need ccp to do it for you, the tools are already in place. You have the duel system, and if you want be really complex you could even use the war dec system for bigger group fights. or you could go to ls and do that, as well as provide people the tags for sec so after words they can reduce there standings hit. or you could ask a 0.0 alliance that owns a system and stage it there. Honestly, creativity and you can already do this on your own.

You know....

You gave me an idea.

Though I despise the idea of eSports in general.. sorry ALL sports in general I meant, I did have a thought about PvP arena fights that I could agree with;

DeathMatch

Forget Isk or ship risk; dial your self down to an Alpha Clone, and have a ten match-minimum limit?

Only an idea, but it should be as viciously risky as humanly possible

My corp is holding tournaments every few weeks. Do we really need an arena? Hisec is close enough.

Not sure if that response is sarcastic but honestly...
I would watch and bet on that and I bet players would participate if the rewards were big enough.

This idea is exactly why I think the sandbox needs toys vs. rides. I didn't take it there but its a good idea. Players can build sandcastles but its easier if you have a shovel when you do it.

I have been playing this game for years and love it, like most of us. But I have been waiting years now for a Rated Ladder System. I'm sure many people who would like to see this. Adding a 1v1, 2v2, and so on up to 5v5 with a secured ladder system would be great fun, and also teach people how to pvp properly. I.E. flying your ship in space. There is nothing like a healthy round of competition... hell it's what EvE is based on... my ship is better then your ship... warp to sun?

This ladder would reset every quarter or two. It would have one time only unique rewards for season winners, as well as unique rewards of lesser value for say something for like top 5%, 10%, 20% of the sandbox's ladder ratings. And to appease the people that just suck and want a trophy for participation, add something that is obtainable threw points, "I.E. you get 1 point for each arena played" "giving them a bone". Something that's not unique but of value like 100 points will give you a x-type or something to that effect. This would really drive pvp to a new level, as ladder's are always great fun and creates tons of stories and competition if done right, and the sandbox we live in is perfect because everyone can see who is #1 or #1000

To make it easy for CCP to implement, they could have them on separate nodes, that is say qued up from a major hub. And to keep the whole once it's dead it's gone effect that we all love, the ship that you just put together in jita is now saved and entered into que, one you join que your ship magically goes from your hanger in jita to the pvp hanger, of course if your ship dies you'll need to buy a new one, but if your the winner same loot drops apply, which then gets saved of course and can be brought back to the eve server.

If you think this is a good idea please have your friends to reply to this post. If you don't agree with a PvP Arena then also state why you think it's a bad idea. The more that reply, the more CCP pays attention.

leave high security space. The rest of the map is the pvp arena.

Actually as an "in corp" only ability it could be useful for training.

As a generally available thing ... probably not a good idea.

That's because everyone saying that is a snake-link-booster toon with a falcon alt just incase who cannot commit into a fight.

Bah. I use 2 falcon alts just in case and have a hotdrop blops isboxing squad on standby. Get on my level :)

You know what would really do the job? A hammer.

OK seriously: imagine if EFT was taken to a new level where you can fly your ship around in a construct and form a peer to peer (or client server) connection to actually battle against other fits.

Models are exportable from the game client, the equations are well known (most of them anyway) and connecting a game is merely communications programming stuff. It's doable.

If I didn't have a job and a need to get sunlight I would do it.

We have an arena for PvP. It's called New Eden.

Whether it's flexing the muscles of your industrial might, waging war for resources or territorial control, playing a propaganda war or killing people and taking their stuff because you want what they have, or just because you can, the competition is out there.

EVE is a 11 year long (so far) arena match that keeps moving forward. Many have joined the battle, many have survived the tests and trials so far, but countless have fallen because they weren't the sharpest, the fastest thinking, the most devious, the most ruthless or most intelligent thinking.

Even more will fall in the future, and they'll be replaced by fresh blood as alliances and corporations rise and fall.

Such is life and the passage of time. The fight continues.
