My EVE

I can understand certain fan sites no longer being accurate. But then I came across this. The official wiki information, some of the most basic information that you'd expect to be available, hasn't been updated in 4 years!

And yes I know that the rest of the wiki is just as horrible when it comes to up-to-date information, but for the most basic of basic information like ore values you'd expect it to at least be looked at from time to time. The EVE Wiki is the closest thing to a game manual there is. It's really really REALLY pretty pathetic that fansites have more accurate information listings than the official wiki.

Devs, please, invest some more time in what is essentially your game's manual. How do you expect new players to start playing this game if you can't even provide them with the most basic of information?

I was actually planning on updating that page when I had some time to do it. And I have no problem with editing one page.

The problem I'm having is that CCP basically expects the players to write the (1200 page) manual for their own game. Between all the people who are employed by CCP to write stories and lore and articles for the website, surely there's one or two persons who could take a few hours a week to update some wiki info.

I love EVE for its community driven content, including the legion of third party websites. But here's what happened before I made this thread.

1. I notice one of the spreadsheets I use for mining is no longer accurate somehow. I find out that the ore values are wrong.

2. I Google the accurate ore values and the first hit on Google is outdated (Grismar's site hasn't been updated since 2007, yet people still widely use it and even claim it is accurate). Also, why is a fansite first in Google and not official EVE documentation?

3. In an effort to find the correct values I end up on the EVElopedia which has the same values as the outdated fansite and has no further info except 'this site is outdated, go somewhere else'.

4. I then find a devblog detailing ore changes for Tyrannis with some arbitrary chart which isn't helpful since it didn't include 5% and 10% ores.

5. I go back to Google and find Fuzzwork to have the accurate listings (tested against refine values in-game and they are correct).

I've been playing since 2006 so I have an understanding of how to find information outside of official channels like most of us. But how are new players ever supposed to find accurate information this way? CCP wants to improve the new player experience and having an up to date game manual/wiki is probably the very first step towards doing that. But players shouldn't be solely responsible for keeping it up to date. CCP has to at least help.
