Hi All

I have posted this up here as a suggestion to CCP and as a call for support from you guys.

ONCE EVERY TWO YEARS YOU CAN PAY TO RESET YOUR SKILL POINTS AND REALLOCATE THEM

A lot of us have been playing Eve for a long time. A lot of us have scrappy characters with unfocused skill sets.

A lot of people we know have left Eve because of the difficulty in keeping things fresh.

CCP is always looking for ways to increase revenues.

Here is a simple suggestion that could solve a lot of these problems.

Skill Points take time and cost money. If you have taken the time and invested the money then you should be allowed to use them as you want, within reason.

Benefits of this suggestion

- Re-focus your character based on the knowledge you have gained over the years
- Re-invent yourself without having to go through the total drama of the character bazaar (there is still a great role for the character bazaar - get away from your old contacts/history, buy an additional character, etc. but keeping your character you can choose to maintain your standings, alliances, contacts and still feel like you have gained a fresh start)
- CCP could implement this in a variety of ways: €1 per 1m SP re-allocation; 2 PLEX for the whole lot; etc.
- Maintain people's interest in the game
- Make it easier to come back after a gap and do something new
- Encourages people to enjoy more aspects of the game
- Adds an extra benefit to buying/selling characters
- Re-invigorates the markets as people buy/sell more when they decide to redefine their role and need new assets and want to get rid of old assets.
- ETC, etc....

So many benefits it strikes me as a no-brainer.

I don't think it should be easy, perhaps there is a little more than a financial cost, perhaps even a small percentage loss of SP. For example: Character to undergo extreme neural re-configuration. Possible chance of partial memory loss of between 5% and 10%. So a 100m SP character could end up down to 90m SP! But still worth it if you have a crap character that you really want to do something new with.

It shouldn't be possible that often, you would still need to buy the new skill books. You switch from being PVP focused to being an industrialist then your character should only be able to do a reallocation once every few years (to avoid permanent brain damage) but also to ensure your character has a real go at doing what you decided you wanted to try.

Sure, some people will re-allocate badly - devil's grief to them, there's a cost to everything in Eve, we all know that.

So, it's up to you guys, let's get some support for this simple, but effective way to add some more juice to the world we live in.

We know the code is there to do it as we have had a small SP reset in the past when skills were revamped.

What do you think?

No

This has been posted on multiple threads and the general consensus is it's a bad idea. You might as well remove skills all together

Downsides... Plural

Makes attributes moot because you can train any skill then just put the SP wherever you want

Makes choices you make about skills irrelevant. A big part of Eve is making choices as to what you want to train for. This limits me to what I can fly. I want to fly a Revelation but do I train right to that or get good at a T3?

I can come up with more but too lazy at the moment.

Just search the forums and you will find plenty of downsides

There are many downsides. If you'd like to know more, do a forum search. Hell, a google search will link the threads for you too.

-1 because you didn't do research..
-1 because you contributed nothing new to the concept of skill point redistribution.
-1 for the "title all caps".

and -1 for being an impatient ******** that's littering the forum with repeat threads.

oh... and No to the really bad idea.

I'll bet I posted in at least a few of those links. My opinions can be found there.

To be clear though, what your describing is a 'pay to win' mechanic. Where there would never be a need for characters over 3 years old. Changing the system now would de-value all of the older characters. Nobody is ever going to support that idea. You won't either, when you have a few years invested.
If you want to 'pay to win', just buy a character from the bazaar.
