Dust on PC confirmed! (Project Legion)

So is Dust being killed and Legion is replacing it?

EVE is a great tactical game, but sometimes I like to exercise twitch muscle reactions and do my own aiming. That is why the tree games will jell so well together. They are three very different ways of experiencing the same universe.

I feel like I am standing on the deck of the Titanic watching the Queen Merry II coming over the horizon, and hoping it gets close before I am left swimming. For now I will try to enjoy the music as the band plays on...

With Sony and MS dropping their custom architectures used in the PS3 (cell..ugh) and Xbox 360, for standard PC-friendly chipsets in the PS4 and Xbone, the potential to port from PC to consoles is vastly increased...

I wouldn't be surprised if Legion PC becomes the 'base' code, and CCP subsequently ports it to PS4 and Xbone with a later announcment of Dust514's code stream's demise.

My further prediction is that while Legion will run on PC, PS4 and Xbone -- due to inherent play differentials of mouse vs. controller (as fail-prototyped by MS game-matching PC and X360 players in the same game), all three platforms would integrate with EvE but not each other. i.e. Legion matchmaking would remain PS4 to PS4, Xbone to Xbone, and PC to PC -- all having hooks into EVE.

Interestingly, if they were to work at it, and if they slowed the overall speed of play by a small amount, they could integrate each one together.

Notably this has been done with the new Final Fantasy(Realm Reborn I think it's called), it has cross system support.

Legion is a biblical reference to a clarification that a demon wasn't singular, but multiple entities. i.e. WE are Legion. I wonder if CCP named it Legion as a subtle hint that the strategy is to put it on multiple platforms in the future.

There are a lot of repeated comments and points here so I hope I haven't done so again, but I have a few to add:

- For those who say they just want to chill on the couch playing Dust/Legion, if CCP releases Legion on Steam (eves on there so theres no reason why they wouldnt) then with the myriad of Steam Boxes coming out YOU CAN :D
Not to mention you can just buy the Xbox Controller for windows o_O

- For those who say they will never be able to afford a $2000 gaming rig, Steam boxes will be able to run windows and cost a comparable amount to new gen consoles.
Not to mention you can get pc's for similar prices to consoles anyway which can play modern games.
I am telling you this as a long running pc gamer and builder of pcs who also works in the technology events industry.

- For those saying they want to play with a controller, steam box has one, xbox has a windows controller. HELL they release the freakin kinect for windows too. See us pc gamers even get the bad peripherals from your bloody xbox world. :P
Dust514 has always supported both keyboard mouse and controller, I always used to play it with a keyboard mouse. So no difference in gameplay balance there.

- For those who are pissed about all the money the spent on Dust, they have already announced there will be character porting in a as fair way as possible.
So stop spending money on Dust514, and look forward to having a well earned headstart in project legion after you get a Steam Box for a few hundred bucks

On this last topic though, I am honest to the eve gods though when I say that I hope in all hell its not free to play again :S
I would most definitely charge money for the initial game, and charge for additional map packs and expansions like Titanfall.
BUT PLEASE have a better campaign (ie single player) or none at all!!!!!!

If they do go free to play, they can take a lot of hints and balancing advise from the guys doing Mech Warrior Online.
Very well done good sirs, never thought I would call myself a core gamer of a free to play game!

I think a market industry link to eve will be essential.
Maybe along with a PI update in eve to incorporate aspects of legion?
Maybe PI eve players could even be the ones to construct assets for Legion Mercs while the same eve players pay the mercs to protect their planetary installations.
I wouldn't be surprised if all this industry shakeup is partially in preparation for this extension of the economy to be honest.




Also one more point to make, where in gods hell are the people who say eve is empty getting the **** their smoking?!

The reason why null sec activity has declined recently is because the powers that be are too big, there are too few real sides at war. This is a political issue and a WHOLE other can of fish.

Plus everyone knows if you're looking for a quick brawl you go to low sec. where in there are always plenty of threats and prey to be found. then if in complete doubt, go bug RvB, E-uni or Brave Newbies ;)

Legion. Awesome. I want to see WALKING IN STATIONS revitalised, I want to see ability to hijack stations, i want to see boarding parties taking over battleships, I want to see pirates running through the decks of Titans shooting the crew, I want to see a boarding party able to capture ships from the INSIDE whilst the 'captain' spins his ship, or leaves command to run around his ship to defend it.. I want to see boarding parties able to shut down vital systems in ships, put warp drive offline, take guns offline.. take active low slot modules out one by one. I want to take out a POS from the inside...

I want to be able to sabotage PI...

I dont want a lot, but it will convince me that SC isn't worth looking at.......
