I'm seriously considering buying Elite Dangerous when it goes retail, how does it compare to the original?

How can this even be a correct sentence? Its either like X:Rebirth..OR it doesn't suck.. you just cant have it both ways man..

*im still mad about X:Rebirth.. so mad.. I wanted to like it soooo much... but that whole failed console port to PC feel.. and that bugfest.. and that broken everything.. I still look at the icon on my desktop.. and say "Maybe ill try it just one more time" and then I get all the way to the start screen... and I just exit.

I encountered a game breaking bug forty minutes into the campaign. I put that ****** down moments later, uninstalled it a week later after reading through their forums.

Afterbirth made me cringe. I don't think I got to even 10 minutes before I have a list of about a half a dozen gameplay 'features' that were almost gamebreaking, and then I got to the bugs as well. Felt like a stab in the back, after all that time waiting for the next big X thing to happen, to have it be what it was, it was downright heartbreaking.

I still spent a lot of time on it. I wrote a mod that fixed two bugs in the storyline (one that cleared the static on the Event Monitor when you left DeVries, and one that caused the standings to drop appropriately between both sides when you go to capture that Taranis, so that both sides would actually fight), I wrote another one that fixed the pathfinding a little (because when I got them to fight, they'd shoot at their targets whether there was something between them and their target or not, like a friendly capital), and was working on a script that would improve the AI of ship crews and get them to actually shoot at stuff instead of just sitting there and dying when you gave your Defence Officer the "attack enemies" order. I frapsed an Arawn I owned getting blown to smithereens by ONE little fighter in DeVries before I started work on that to show Ego how much they sucked, but I eventually just gave up.

Apparently, most of the bugs are gone now, but it wasn't just the bugs that made Afterbirth unplayable for me, and I gave up on that when I realised it.

Elite: Dangerous, to me, has a certain Xwing Alliance feel to it, one I've been looking for in a space sim for a while now. I love those kinds of games, I've been playing various flight combat sims since I was about 6 or 7 (and understanding them) and I wanted to be a fighter pilot most of my life. So, Elite is kinda actually more my style of gaming than EVE is.

I'll still be around on EVE for a while to come though, provided CCP don't screw the pooch again, but I'll probably end up playing Elite more than EVE.

From what I've seen so far out of Valkyrie vs Star Citizen vs Elite, Elite is the surefire winner. I say that, though, without having had a chance to playtest Valkyrie myself, so fingers crossed it's not VR-only because it won't even qualify as a competitor if it is, and I really wanna try Valkyrie.

If abnything Elite Dangerous is like ELITE only even better in every aspect.

The "X" Space games are a cheap rippoff and they'll never be anything else. And you're right, they suck.
