and so it continues... Cool

- How does the CSM look at the stories that are created by the capsuleers in New Eden with artistic integrity (no compromise of the pilot or his work for real life profit) versus CCP's view that the stories that are created in New Eden can not necessarily just be re-told straight (Dark Horse for example)

The CSM can speak for themselves on this one, however CCP have been pretty open and direct on this one. The first volume of True Stories was written as an account from one side of a chain of events. It's naturally going to be biased toward those telling the stories, and told from their point of view. That's the whole point of it.

It's not designed to be a fully factual reference to an event that occurred, it's designed to be a dramatization of events told through the eyes of a player who may or may not be biased.

I don't really see the meaning of this question. Events happen the way that they happen, and they'll be displayed as such. I, for one, will actively oppose any form of embellishment of events or factual narrative.

Live events are a tool for us to use in order to bring a little flavor to New Eden. We've used these for marketing purposes in the past (see Operation: Highlander and Operation: Spectre), but in the same respect, personally I prefer them, to be far more storyline focused and driven. Since they now fall entirely in my ballpark as of very recently, this is the way they'll remain for the best part.

Also, if the CSM or some of our players would like me to be present at the CSM townhall to discuss stuff like this, I'm more than happy to be there.

1. CSM8 sometimes disagreed internally about feedback that should be given to CCP about a given feature and instead of trying to show a single face, would often give CCP all of the varying opinions of that feature and let CCP decide. Is CSM9 operating the same way? I'm particularly curious about differing public CSM9 member reactions to the freighter/JF rebalance for Kronos and the jump fuel nerf for Crius.

Will comment on this from the point of view of CCP.

We don't (at least trying not to) force CSM members to represent a single point of view, even though it would be easier to process the feedback if all opinions would match each other. Every member of the CSM represents the area they are specializing in, in the way they believe is it right. If two (or more) members of the CSM provide two (or more) different opinions - we will consider all of them. Furthermore, a lot of different opinions is usually an additional sign that something is going wrong.

tl;dr if the CSM member doesn't want to be a 'team player' he (or she) doesn't have to.

I have heard from many (what I would consider) solid sources, that ISD has edited CCP post and has intervened in a CCP in game channel talks with players citing TOS violations. I've myself have seen ISD personnel respond to in game problems in a way I would consider consistent with a lack of training. Are there any checks on ISD? Should CCP/CSM find credible evidence that this is happening will there be action?

*note: I do not have direct experience and evidence of this happening. But I live in 'Merica where agency's have a tendency to go overboard with power.

There are indeed regular audits and considerable checks in place. Additionally each team has a dedicated CCP liaison, monthly reviews are conducted and the application process is quite strict - furthermore each ISD volunteer has signed a NDA with CCP. That said, if you have questions about a specific action by ISD (for example forum moderation or in-game help channel moderation), you are more than welcome to ask the CCP staff for a review by submitting a support ticket to the Rules & Policies -> Game Masters & ISD queue.

Dradis Aulmais wrote:

ISD is bound to high standards and ethics. As such, any severe breach of these ethics (that has to be confirmed by CCP) will have consequences. Details about specific volunteers will not be released though as this would be a violation of our privacy policy regarding volunteers.

All that said, I would like to point to the fantastic and outstanding work done by the ISD volunteers throughout all the years. Most of this work is not easily visible, but nonetheless very important. During the last 12 months, ISD investigated more than 10,000 bug reports, spent more than 3,500 hours in the help channels, investigated more than 9,500 forum moderation requests and created/updated hundreds of lore and fiction relevant articles - a truly fantastic work!

I won't be able to attend so here is my question:
What is the priority list/roadmap for intended fixes and new content over the next year? I'm not asking for NDA stuff, just a general list of things that are going to be worked on, and their relative levels of importance.

Ali Ares: how goes the new player improvement talks with CCP with regards to industry. I.E. what was talked about in your Hangout a couple weeks ago.

Can any thing else be said about Fozzies new initiative that was talked about on the CSM update yesterday?

This is something that should be adressed by CCP rather than the CSM, but since they don't seem to give a flying **** the only resort seems to be pressuring CCP into acting on this issue.

So what's the issue? The EVE client ships with severely insecure software. A six year old browser to be precise (That's Chrome 3!). This is pretty lame by itself as the IGB could be so much more, blending in with the other UI elements to create something like a UI mod. This is currently impossible because the IGB does not support modern web technologies.

What is more concerning is the amount of security issues that have been patched in the Chrome browser in those 6 years. Here's a pretty complete catalogue of them (not all apply to Chrome 3, but enough do):
https://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/search-results?adv_search=true&cves=on&cpe_version=cpe%3a%2fa%3agoogle%3achrome%3a10.0.601.0&startIndex=0

I've already brought up the issue more than a year ago on these very forums and the EVE subreddit. You should be able to find it in my recent posts as I don't post a lot on the forums. The response from CCP was a disgraceful attempt at shifting responsibility on me, asking me to provide a proof-of-concept exploit that could impact players' computers. I did, but the issue I've demonstrated was not severe enough for CCP to act. The employee I corrisponded with back then has since left CCP and left a statement on the subreddit a few days ago. In short: He also banged his head against a corporate wall trying to get this disgraceful issue fixed. Nobody cared. ( http://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/27g99h/a_tad_funny_and_a_bit_embarassing_this_ingame/ci14tp5 )

So what is the actual impact on this? In the worst case scenario someone could remotely execute code on your computer, just by you clicking a link in EVE. You most likely wouldn't even notice besides perhaps the IGB crashing. Of course this could always happen, but the EVE client is at an extreme risk of being hit with such outdated software and so many potential owned boxes. CCP needs to either update the browser or remove it alltogether for all of us to be reasonably safe.

As stated by Enta Ozuwara, the IGB really needs updating. My main problem with it is not being able to view PDF's or youtube video's, especially as a new player, and wanting to look up tips and tricks on playing etc!

Q1: Is this being looked into at all\discussed with the CSM-CCP: Tooltips going to be separated out so that the Neocom Tooltips have a separate delay to say Capacitor\Overheat and again separate to the Overview Tooltips?

Q2: Is this being looked into at all\discussed with the CSM-CCP: Change the icons of Covert Ops Cyno, Cyno and Command Processors to be unique. I personally think that nothing should share the same icon unless it has the same purpose i.e. AB's, MWD's, WCS etc.

Q3: Is it being discussed internally within the CSM about not implementing things without a "tone down\turn off" option? I like the Tooltips but I either have to have them in my face with short delay on everything to see my wallet amount without waiting 30 seconds or all at 30 seconds delay which affects how quickly I can see my Cap amount, OH stats etc. I don't want to turn them off but the option would be nice for those that do. More often than not CCP try to force us to use things before giving us the option to "tone down" or turn it off. CQ for instance, Tooltips is another one.

If that's not the sort of thing you were after then I'm sorry.

So what I took away from the CSM Townhall #1:

Q1 & 3: Conversations have been on-going between CSM-CCP (Q3 was a re-hash of Q1 so was skipped and rightly so)

Q2: Been mentioned before, CSM8, CSM9 and before. Requires Dev Time but has been discussed. Some of the CSM agreed with this completely.

Hope that helps anyone looking for any answers. These were answered at 50min point here

Thanks CCP Falcon for answering my concerned questions as a customer at CCPgames about the future of marketing New Eden.

Sadly the CSM 9 passed over these questions in their townhall with hardly an answer, but you took away my concern about how potentially the marketing of Eve Online could evolve with the new point release plan after Kronos in a fictional direction.

Eve online is :

A) mining simulator B) glorified chatroom C) spreadsheets online

D) CCP Games Pay to Win at skill leveling, with instant gratification

tbh, Marketing is something I'm quite happy to leave in the hands of CCP.

As Falcon had answered questions before the townhall, I thought it was covered.

Anyway, if you want me to talk a bit, here goes:

'you had to be there' stories aren't that interesting. While the downfall of BoB is interesting in the details, the top level story (which is what most people see) isn't that great. It's about 2 sentences to cover it.

So, having someone beef it up, and add in the details in a way that 'anyone' can get is good. It also provides a way to deal with the metagame things. Alts need an in game explanation, for example.

Woo! CSM XI!

History is written by the winners I gues Steve, hopefully CCP has some of those in their staff that play the game like the rest of us.

Time will tell if the history of eve, and those in the making is not twisted to badly to suit the needs of profit and market share Cool

I hope you take your lesson and you implement the turn on/off option regarding tooltips in the new patch on 26th and I hope you understand that is more important then everything else in this Hyperion release right?
