Forum Warrior IIs,
I'm sure at some point you've lost a highly constructive, intellectual and lengthy post to the forum gank monster. Fear not, however, as there is a solution which doesn't involve you copy and pasting your post into a word processor just in case disaster strikes!
Simply install this addon for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lazarus-form-recovery/

Upon being ganked, calmly return back to the thread, open the quick reply, right click on the message box, hover over 'Recover Text' and select your excellent post.

Of course, the addon works for the wall-of-tears posts you're likely to save to a document, print and frame later; as well as the short and violent emotional outbursts which you may not bother backing up.

I look forward to sifting through a greater number of excellent posts in the future.

-DX

PS -
If you use Chrome, I respect your browser choice but urge you to use a stronger and more masculine browser.
If you use IE, I understand that your browser isn't nearly as terrible and ugly as it used to be, but there are better ones available.
If you use Opera, I suggest that the internet is too 'mainstream' for you, and that you should return to your hipster lair.
If you use Safari, I suggest you set fire to your computer to cleanse it of the evil you have afflicted upon it.

…it's sad to see how an already bloated browser needs even more bloat to have even the most fundamental of functionality. P

Seriously, though, someone needs to do to Firefox what Firefox did to Netscape.

I'm totally going to try this tomorrow at work. It would reduce so many headaches if it works...

Opera has plenty of extensions to pick from, and I actually use one addon that does exactly what you describe.
It's called "savetext" : https://addons.opera.com/addons/extensions/details/savetext/

Chrome ALSO has plenty of extensions too, and there's a version of Lazarus for it too.

I'm not going to bother copying a small post, like this one.

Besides:
10 secs to install the addon vs 60 secs of copy-pasting throughout the week.

Save yourself some time.

Most forum ganks happen when some self important tard decides to post something pointless in your thread to try to derail it and keep posting continiously.

What you mentioned is a weakness of these forums so alt-c is a priority these days and that can solve most problems
I dont normally troll, but when i do i do it on General Discussion.

I can't really think of any reason why I use Opera. However, I can come up with many reasons why I don't use the other browsers. Blink

Also, if you use Opera, you can usually just press backspace and get your post back.

Yeah.

Everybody who installs a plug-in for this ...

Exactly ... but people prefer using crappy mainstream browsers anyway,
because they are "cool" and "alternative" and "anti-microsoft" ... haha, sure.

This just shows just how wrong you are about everything.
Alternative? Make up your mind. You just called IE/Chrome/FF mainstream.
Anti-microsoft? Opera isn't made by Microsoft.
What are you babbling on about?

On the topic of stupidity, overuse of the ellipsis indicates an inability of one to express themselves correctly. A mark of stupidity, some would say. Straight

On Chrome all you need to do is hit the back button and your text is still there. Ctrl-C and go again.

Current usage stats

~41 percent for IE... Mostly used by people who have no choice or just don't know / haven't tested the other options recently.
~26 percent for Chrome and growing steadily... more and more popular choice and recently passed firefox in popularity.
~25 percent for Firefox and has been going down slowly for a long time... still rather popular choice.
~8 percent for other, including the browsers used in mobile devices and so on...

although this seems to be a solution for the nasty effects, i discourage it for two reasons:

(1) It *should* not be necessary to install additional software to compensate a bug elsewhere.

(2) Additional software also brings the risk of additional bugs into your system, not to mention the additional resources needed for it.

In my humble opinion "select all" + "CTRL-C" is an acceptable work-around.
